Hobart
Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, and Australia's second oldest city, is a small harbour city at the foot of towering Mt. Wellington. Each new year the docks come alive for the conclusion of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and the Hobart Summer Festival. The city is an intriguing blend of heritage, scenery and vibrant culture. It's a city defined by the river and sea. Take a harbour cruise, or drive to the summit of Mt. Nelson or Mt. Wellington. City buildings cluster around the docks and the estuary broadens into Storm Bay. 25km from the busy city is the historic town of Richmond, where Tasmania's convict past seems just a clink of chains away. Nearby Coal River Valley is home to superb cool-climate wines.
