From the capital city of Hobart to the food and wine centre of Launceston, the cities are a delight. ˇ Tasmania's native wildlife is quite unique and really accessible, visit Cradle Mountain to enjoy the peace and tranquillity and you may even meet Tassie's most famous creature, the Tasmanian Devil. ˇ Visit Port Arthur for a fascinating insight into the past, you'll learn about how the convicts lived as well as taking in some beautiful scenery along the way. ˇ Freycinet is a stunning national park on the east coast. If you are feeling energetic take a walk to Wineglass Bay, probably one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia. It's really worth the effort and sunset over the Hazards will make you want to stay forever. ˇ Hobart is the second oldest capital city in Australia, explore on foot and you will see many fine old houses and public buildings, little changed from days gone by. Stop off in a café for a coffee or a bite to eat. You must try some local trout with a glass of Tasmanian wine. ˇ If you are visiting on a Saturday, visit Salamanca Market, in Hobart, and check out the local produce. You can try special herb vinegars, mustards, bush honeys and cheeses, quite delicious and a lovely way to spend the morning. ˇ For the more adventurous Tasmania is renowned for its great walks. Enjoy four day walks of Maria Island or the Bay of Fires. Gentle walking by day is complimented by some fine food and wines by night. ˇ Don't miss the World Heritage-listed Franklin Gordon Wild Rivers National Park accessed from Strahan village.
