Western & Eastern Canada - Self-Drive Holidays Northern Exposure 10 Days Calgary - Edmonton (or Calgary) Departures: Daily (01May08-31Oct08) Days 1 & 2: Calgary Pick-up your hire car, after arriving into Calgary's International Airport, before making your way downtown. Spend the following day exploring this vast city. Day 3: Calgary - Banff (80 miles) After two days in the city the `call of the wild' will beckon and take you to Banff. Journey up via the foothills, passing through towns such as Dead Man Flats and the resort of Canmore. Day 4: Banff Explore the town of Banff, which boasts many attractions including the Hot Springs, Banff Gondola and the Cave & Basin Centennial Centre. Day 5: Banff - Lake Louise (46 miles) Drive west today to Lake Louise, the quintessential image of Canada and the `Jewel of the Rockies'. Backed by the impressive Victoria Glacier, this pristine lake has been inspiring artists and tourists alike since the 1800s. Days 6 & 7: Jasper (142 miles) Now head north onto the Icefields Parkway for an unforgettable drive to Jasper. Bordered by mountains, waterfalls, varied wildlife and glaciers, you have one of the most scenic roads in the world. A highlight of the journey is the Athabasca Glacier - take time to enjoy an `Ice Explorer' ride onto the ice itself, then spend two nights in Jasper. Days 8 & 9: Jasper - Edmonton (225 miles) Take the Yellowhead Highway out of Jasper and savour the opportunity to perhaps see deer, elk and bighorn sheep. Venturing north, the scenery becomes more remote and forested as you approach Edmonton, where you will spend the next two nights. Famed for having the world's largest shopping mall, which is also home to an indoor theme park Jasper Alberta Edmonton Lake Louise Banff Calgary British Columbia Edmonton and waterpark, Edmonton sits on the banks of the Saskatchewan River and is great to explore. Day 10: Edmonton Departure End your tour today by choosing to return your car to Edmonton Airport's rental depot, or perhaps make the 173 mile journey back to Calgary Airport. Days 2 & 3: Toronto Take the next couple of days to enjoy the dynamic city of Toronto, home of the CN Tower which stands just under 336 metres tall (admission has been included for you). Day 4: Toronto ­ Niagara Falls (80 miles) Travel south to famed Niagara Falls and the quaint village, with its 19th century heritage, of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Day 5: Niagara Falls A truly breathtaking sight and one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World, the Horseshoe and American Falls are a sight to behold and you will enjoy getting up close on a 30-minute `Maid of the Mist' boat ride (included). Day 6: Niagara Falls - Blue Mountain (149 miles) There are a variety of routes that you can take today for the trip to Blue Mountain, either via the lush and beautiful Beaver Valley or along the shores of Lake Huron. Days 7 & 8: Blue Mountain ­ Manitoulin Island (118 miles not including ferry crossing) Take the ferry from Tobermory to South Baymouth on Manitoulin Island. The world's largest freshwater island, Manitoulin contains five native reservations and offers a variety of adventure activities like boating and fishing. Days 9 & 10: Manitoulin Island ­ Killarney Provincial Park (171 miles) Cross back to the mainland today and travel through lakes and woodlands, to the north shore of Georgian Bay for a two-night stay in Killarney Provincial Park. (BD) Manitoulin Island Killarney Gore Bay Blue Mountain Huntsville Toronto Niagara Falls NIagara Falls Day 11: Killarney Provincial Park ­ Huntsville (168 miles) After breakfast this morning, follow the route made by old fur trading pioneers south to Huntsville, one of the gateways to Algonquin Provincial Park. (B) Day 12: Huntsville/Algonquin Provincial Park Today we suggest a boat cruise on Lake Muskoka or, for the more adventurous, venture into the wilds of Algonquin Provincial Park to hike through pristine forests or canoe sparkling lakes. Days 13 & 14: Huntsville ­ Toronto (135 miles) Depart Huntsville and take a leisurely drive down through southern Ontario, returning to the urban surrounds of Toronto. Tomorrow your tour comes to an end once you return your car to the Alamo depot at Toronto Airport.
