Car Rental
Our chosen partners, Alamo and National, are two of the most recognised brands in the car rental industry. Together they cover over 200 locations throughout Canada and offer a selection of high quality and reliable vehicles so that you can relax and discover Canada in your own time, at your own pace. We can pre-book hotels in a wide range of Canadian towns, or alternatively you may wish to book one of our preplanned self drive tours found on pages 16-21 & 79.
Driver Qualifications
· All drivers must have a valid driving licence and produce a passport and a return airline ticket. · Drivers must be in possession of a valid major credit card (UK bank cards will not be accepted) and be present at pick-up to sign the rental agreement. · The minimum rental age is 21*. * The minimum rental age in Newfoundland is 25. · A charge of CA$25 per driver, per day applies to drivers aged 21-24 (inclusive). Additional Drivers If you would like to nominate more than one driver there will be an additional charge of CA$10 per day for each extra driver for both Alamo and National. Additional drivers are included in the Alamo Gold / National Fully Enhanced rates. Rental Period Rental rates are based on a 24-hour period, which means a car picked up at 10:00am must be returned by 10:00am on the last rental day to avoid additional charges. Late returns will be charged at the local rates. There are no refunds should a car be returned early. The minimum rental period is one day, with a maximum of 30 days. Fleet Cars are reserved by car category and not by specific model. If the category reserved is not available at pick up, a similar or higher grade car will be substituted without extra charge. Air conditioning is available in all Alamo and National cars. The vehicles pictured are representative of the current Alamo fleet. Seat Belts It is compulsory in all provinces of Canada and in Alaska for seat belts to be worn. Roadside Assistance Roadside assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with both Alamo and National. Simply call their toll-free number (which will be provided at the time of rental) for assistance or to help answer any questions as needed. In addition, the Roadside Service Plan can be purchased locally for C$4.99 per day. This gives protection against the items not covered under your standard 24-hour roadside assistance, including replacement of keys, glass and tyres, and towing. Special Equipment Special equipment such as ski racks or baby seats are available on a request basis only and are subject to additional charges, payable at the time of rental. Please note that all equipment is at an additional cost and is subject to tax, which must be paid for locally. Driving Restrictions Cars may not be driven on gravel, unpaved roads or nongovernment roads. If done so, this will invalidate your Collision Damage Waiver. Cars may be taken into the USA, but cross-border rentals are always subject to a oneway drop charge, and are available between certain Canadian and U.S. cities only.
Liability Insurance Liability insurance provides protection for you or any authorised drivers, should you injure or damage property, up to $1 million Canadian dollars.
Not Included in Your Rental
Deposits Customers with a pre-paid car rental voucher will be required to leave a credit card deposit to cover the estimated extra costs. Not included in the rate. Fuel Unless booking Alamo Gold / National Enhanced Fully Inclusive upon pick-up of your rental car you will be charged for a full tank of fuel. However, you may return your vehicle empty. No refund will be given for unused fuel.
Fully Inclusive - Included In Rental
Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) LDW protects the renter from financial responsibility for loss or damage to the rented vehicle due to collision, theft, vandalism or any other cause, subject to the renter having complied with the terms of agreement. Alamo and National are subject to an excess throughout Canada as follows: drivers 25 years and over CA$300, drivers 21-24 years CA$500. For all rentals in Newfoundland and Whitehorse the excess is CA$1,500, and for Yellowknife CA$2,000. Unlimited Mileage All Alamo car rentals include unlimited mileage. However, at certain National locations limited mileage applies and a charge will be levied, payable locally, when this mileage is exceeded. The depots affected include Jasper. Full details are available on request. Taxes & Airport Fees All taxes on pre-paid charges are included in your package, along with airport fees.
One-Way Rentals
All one-way rentals must be booked in advance, are subject to availability and are not applicable on economy vehicles. With the exception of free one-ways listed below, a charge will be made on all other one-ways within Canada. Full details on request.

Alamo Gold and National Enhanced Fully Inclusive
Please see the price panel on page 13 for prices on Alamo Gold and National's Enhanced Fully Inclusive plan. These prices include one free tank of fuel and any additional drivers charges per rental, offering peace of mind and making it easier to budget for your driving holiday. Alamo Gold and National Fully Inclusive prices are as little as £19 per week more than the Fully Inclusive rates, making this excellent value for money.
