Once paired with a horse, guests are expected to groom and saddle them; as well as exploring the prairies, valleys and nearby lakes, you will also check up on the herd for that `Rawhide' experience. Heli-Hiking in the Columbia Mountains

To the west of the Canadian Rockies lies a little-known mountain range, known as the Columbia Mountains. `Little-known' purely because of their inaccessibility, the Columbia Mountains are equal to the Rockies in height, beauty and majesty and the serene and splendid environment this area offers can now be enjoyed, by those wishing to experience the wonders of heli-hiking. What is Heli-Hiking?
Heli-Hiking enables nature and outdoor enthusiasts alike to experience parts of the Canadian wilderness that few, other than hardy, experienced adventurers, ever get to see. By flying into remote lodges in the Columbia Mountains, guests are based in areas of supreme wilderness that get more remote with each day's exploration into the mountains. Heli-hiking blends unique hiking experiences, stunning scenery, and rustic but pleasant accommodation, to give a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Adventure
Day 1: Arrive Bobbie Burns Lodge An early morning pick up from Banff or Lake Louise and a scenic drive west will see you arrive at the heli-pad around 9.30am for the flight to Bobbie Burns Lodge. On reaching the lodge you'll be outfitted with the outdoor wear needed for your `adventure', before a briefing prior to your first flight into the wild! After an orientation walk in the mountains, it's back down to the lodge for some refreshments and then dinner. (LD) Day 2 & 3 : Heli Hiking from Bobbie Burns Lodge The first helicopter then leaves at 9am to take you up to the trails. The helicopter carries up to 11 guests and each group is formed, with its own guide, according to ability, energy and inclination. Spend the day roaming the landscape, with the helicopter always nearby to whisk you off to experience different locations. Wildlife is abundant up here, and coupled with the scenery, the days will provide a multitude of memories. At the end of each day fly back to the lodge for a massage, a game of chess, to relax in the Jacuzzi or to enjoy a cocktail on deck before the culinary delights entice you to the dinner table for another round of storytelling. (BLD) Day 4: Bobbie Burns Lodge - Banff or Calgary After breakfast, the first helicopter leaves at 9.30am for the heli-pad where you'll meet up with the private motorcoach that will take you back to Banff or Calgary to signal the end of this magical time in the mountains. With 24 rooms, all with private facilities, this remote lodge is nestled on the banks of a river with a backdrop of pine forests and towering mountains that can be enjoyed from the outdoor Jacuzzi. Guests swap stories by the fire in the common area, or during the gourmet dinner, served family style around a big table, at the end of each day in the mountains. Other facilities include a games room, climbing wall, sauna, a shop and an extensive wine cellar, rarely found in such a wilderness lodge.
