6 Days St. John's - St. John's
Departures: Daily (01May09-31Oct09) Days 1 & 2: St. John's Arrive in historic St. John's, the oldest city in North America, collect your hire car and head to your accommodation for the next two nights. In the morning, enjoy a fascinating tour of the city; visiting historic sites such as Signal Hill, location of the final battle of the Seven Years' War. Later, you have time at leisure to visit the Botanical Gardens and the Newman Wine Vaults or just enjoy the vibrant city centre. (B) Day 3: St. John's - Avalon Peninsula This morning, head out along the Irish Loop' to the scenic Avalon Peninsula, the most easterly point in North America. From Bay Bulls, enjoy a cruise around Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, with its teaming puffin colony, North America's largest and also the world's largest population of Humpback Whales. Later, continue along the South Shore to Ferryland for a visit to the fascinating Colony of Avalon Archaeological site. Overnight in the small, picturesque village of Mount Carmel.(B)
Days 4 & 5: Avalon Peninsula - Trinity Today, head out to the western shore of the Avalon Peninsula to visit the Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve, home to one of the largest gannet nesting sites in North America. Continue north through the Bonavista Peninsula to the town of Trinity, cultural capital of Newfoundland and also the setting for the 2001 movie The Shipping News'. Next morning you have a nature and whale watching cruise of Trinity Bay, with time later to visit attractions such as the Cape Random film set (from the mini-series Random Passage) and wild Cape Bonavista with its odd looking Lighthouse.(B) Day 6: Trinity - St. John's This morning journey southeast back towards St. John's however en-route take time to visit the charming village of Brigus and maybe some of the scenic fishing villages along the Marine Coastal Drive route. Upon arrival back into St. John's, drop off your hire car and catch your onward flight.(B)
