Touring Canada by Rail Trans-Canada By Rail 13 Days Toronto - Vancouver Highlights Include * Travel through five provinces on this epic journey across an entire continent * Admire the stunning Rocky Mountains and the spectacular city of Vancouver * Experience the legendary 'Canadian' train across the prairies to the mountains Departures: Saturdays (02May09-28Sep09) Day 1: Arrive Toronto Arrive at Toronto's International Airport and transfer independently to your downtown hotel, where you will pick up your documentation and spend the rest of the day as you please either relaxing or exploring the city. Standard: Courtyard by Marriott Deluxe: Fairmont Royal York Day 2: Toronto Sightseeing This morning a city tour will show you the sights of this vibrant city, including the CN Tower, waterfront and Chinatown. Your afternoon is at leisure. Day 3: Niagara Falls Sightseeing Today you will head to Niagara Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World. Your journey there will take you via the Niagara Peninsula, a lush, fruit-growing area famed for its Ontario wines. At the falls, board the Maid of the Mist' for a trip to the bottom of Horseshoe Falls and a close-up view of one of nature's most remarkable sights. After lunch, journey along the Niagara Parkway and pass through the quaint village of Niagara-onthe-Lake before returning to Toronto for the evening.(L) Day 4: VIA Rail - The Canadian Prepare today for a trip aboard one of Canada's most famous trains  The Canadian. In Silver & Blue Class enjoy the start of this immense journey as you leave the east for west. Ahead of you lie the Canadian Shield, the prairies, the Rockies and the Pacific so dream of these as the train rumbles on.(LD) Overnight: The Canadian Day 5: VIA Rail - The Canadian Passing north of the Great Lakes, you will witness the rugged terrain of the Canadian Shield. Rich in minerals, the region is dotted with thousands of freshwater lakes. By early evening the train rolls into Manitoba and the prairie lands await you.(BLD) Overnight: The Canadian Day 6: VIA Rail - The Canadian to Jasper After crossing the prairies overnight you will enter the Canadian Rockies before arriving at Jasper, your destination for tonight.(BL) Standard: Whistler's Inn Deluxe: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Day 7: Jasper - Banff An unforgettable day awaits you, as you venture along the Icefields Parkway to Banff. One of the most scenic roads in the world, the Parkway will leave you in awe as its silent mountains shadow your every move down its winding trail. At the Columbia Icefield, ride in a Ice Explorer to discover the Athabasca Glacier. Standard: Banff Aspen Lodge Deluxe: Fairmont Banff Springs Day 8: Banff Sightseeing Today is yours to explore this fine town, and its surrounding area on a sightseeing tour. Visit the Hoodoos, Tunnel Mountain and Surprise Corner. This afternoon is at leisure. Day 9: Rocky Mountaineer to Kamloops This morning board the Rocky Mountaineer and pass by some jaw-dropping scenery en-route to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. Sit back and relax, and enjoy Rocky Mountaineer's wonderful service (see page 16 for full details).(BL) Overnight: Kamloops Hotel, to be advised locally Please note 1 that Kamloops does not offer deluxe hotels, but all featured properties promise a comfortable stay with all modern amenities. Day 10: Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver Today, re-board the Rocky Mountaineer to continue your journey to the Pacific Coast city of Vancouver, located in one of Canada'a most spectacular natural settings, where you will enjoy a three-night stay.(BL) Standard: Holiday Inn Downtown Deluxe: Fairmont Hotel Vancouver Day 11: Vancouver Sightseeing Enjoy a city sightseeing tour this morning, including visits to historic Gastown, Chinatown, Stanley Park and English Bay. The remainder of the afternoon and evening is at leisure. Day 12: Victoria Sightseeing A full-day trip to Victoria begins with a cruise through the scenic Gulf Islands and includes a visit to the acclaimed Butchart Gardens. Afterwards, continue to Victoria for a sightseeing tour, encompassing stately homes and gardens, as well as historic landmarks before returning to Vancouver in the evening. Day 13: Vancouver Departure Your Canadian adventure is at an end as you check-out of your hotel and make your way to the airport.
