Columbia Icefields from Banff
Departures Daily 01May18Oct Duration 9 hours The Columbia Icefield is an awesome sight when first viewed from the Icefields Parkway. It is one of the largest accumulations of ice south of the Arctic Circle. The Icefield is a true Continental Divide' for its melting water feeds the streams and rivers that pour into three different oceans, north to the Arctic, east to the Atlantic and west to the Pacific. It reaches a depth of up to 320 metres and covers an area of 325 square kilometres. The highlight of the day is a thrilling ride in a specially constructed Ice Explorer' onto the Athabasca Glacier for a truly memorable experience. These converted coaches are equipped with oversized tyres to maximise their grip on the ice and also to minimise environmental damage.
