The High Arctic Expedition
Departures: Aug 29. Day 1: Montréal Resolute Bay Fly from Montréal to Resolute Bay, situated west of Lancaster Sound and north of Arctic Bay, at the approximate centre of the Arctic Archipelago. Overnight: Lyubov Orlova Expedition Vessel Days 2-8: Cruising the Northwest Passage In this land of true polar desert you find mountainous coastlines capped by shining glaciers, impassive icebergs and a rich archaeological history. Nowadays the only humans living beyond the Northwest Passage are a small community of Inuit, living along the margins of the permanent polar pack. This expedition cruise, aboard the Lyubov Orlova, follows the whim of nature and goes, for the most part, where the ice permits! Highlights of your adventure may include Prince Leopold Island, home to spectacular sandstone cliffs that are the summer nesting home of thousands of migratory birds; Grise Fjord, Canada's most northerly community and home to many grunting walrus; Beechey Island, a protected harbour first visited by British explorer John Franklin in 1845, and the Truelove Lowlands, a raised area of beaches on the north shore of Devon Island that attract a variety of wildlife. Overnight: Lyubov Orlova Expedition Vessel Day 9: Resolute Bay Montréal Disembark the vessel, transfer to the air strip and fly back to Montréal where your expedition comes to an end. Price per person in a Low Cabin from £4,184 (twin share). Single and alternative cabin prices available on request.
Departures: Jul 15. Day 1: Montréal Kuujjuaq Depart Montréal and fly to Kuujjuaq, which means Great River' in Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit. After a brief tour of the town and a buffet lunch, transfer to the ship and prepare for your exciting expedition. Overnight: Lyubov Orlova Expedition Vessel Days 2-8: Cruising the Hudson Strait & Hudson Bay This cruise is ideal for those looking to experience majestic icebergs, Inuit culture and a wonderful variety of wildlife, from walrus and polar bears to beluga whales and muscox. Over the next seven nights your ports of call may include Apatok Island, an uninhabited island of soaring bird cliffs and small rocky beaches; Digges & Mansel Islands, the former where Henry Hudson first encountered the native Inuit and the latter, a favourite haunt for walrus and polar bears; Quaqtaq & Diana Island, lie directly in the path of migrating marine mammals and on Diana Island, herds of Muscox roam amid colourful wildflowers. Overnight: Lyubov Orlova Expedition Vessel Day 9: Churchill - Montréal The relatively warm waters of the Churchill River are a favourite summering ground for droves of beluga whales, and you will be able to watch for them on deck as the ship meanders its way up river. After disembarking transfer to airport for your flight back to Montréal. Price per person in a Low Cabin from £3,457 (twin share). Single and alternative cabin prices available on request.
