An exploration of some of the country's most fascinating cities within a short time period, this is the ideal tour for first time visitors to China. Start in the capital Beijing before slowing the pace down in the smaller cities of Xian and Guilin. Explore a selection of the country's treasured heritage, including the Terracotta Warriors, Great Wall, Forbidden City and the Li River.

Departures: Daily Day 1: Arrive Beijing On arrival into Beijing you will be met and transferred to the Novotel Xinqiao Hotel for your three night stay. The remainder of the day is yours to spend at leisure. Accommodation: Novotel Xinqiao Hotel, Beijing Day 2: Beijing city sightseeing Today enjoy a full day's sightseeing of Beijing's main attractions. Marvel at the vast Tiananmen Square, home to China's Parliament; walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace and visit the home of China's Imperial Dynasties at the Forbidden City. Enjoy a traditional Beijing lunch before continuing onto the Hutongs, the small, atmospheric lanes and courtyard houses of old Beijing. (BL) Day 3: The Great Wall An early start will see you journey to the Great Wall at Mutianyu. Take plenty of time to explore this more remote section of the wall and enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. After lunch travel to the opulent Imperial Summer Palace where the emperors once lived. Later head back to the city and indulge in some shopping or further exploration before heading out for a traditional Peking Duck Dinner. (BLD) Day 4: Beijing - Xian This morning you will visit the magnificent Temple of Heaven, where the emperors would come to pray for successful harvests, and today is where locals come to practice Tai Chi or ballroom dancing. Before lunch explore Hongqiao Market for souvenirs, prior to being transferred to Beijing airport for a short flight on to Xian. On arrival in Xian you will be met and escorted to your hotel. Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shihuang and witness the warriors stand guard over his tomb - the thousands strong army of statues provides a fascinating sight. On return to Xian visit the Shaanxi History Museum, said to be one of the best in China, where you will see many ancient Chinese artefacts. (BL) Day 6: Xian - Guilin After breakfast visit the old city of Xian; view the city walls and join a short bike ride through the Islamic Quarter, passing the Great Mosque and its beautifully, tranquil gardens. Then transfer for your flight to Guilin, where on arrival you will be taken to the Park Hotel. (BL) Accommodation: Park Hotel, Guilin Day 7: Guilin & the Li River Start early today and cruise down the spectacular Li River, watching the stunning and dramatic scenery pass you by, before enjoying a simple lunch, served on board the boat. On arrival at Yangshuo there is a little time to explore the small streets, shops and stalls or people-watch in one of the many cafés. Return to Guilin via Dragon Bridge and take in views of beautiful countryside as you go. (BL) Day 8: Depart Guilin Enjoy an introduction to Chinese Medicines at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Institute and relax with a foot
massage. Around Guilin, limestone cliffs dominate the scenery; take a scenic tour of the city and explore the hills where a climb to the top can be organised to take in the panaoramic views. Then carry on to the Reed Flute Caves and see the stalagmites and stalactites. On return, the rest of the day is at leisure before transferring to the airport for your onward journey. (BL)
