Suggested Itineraries If you're not quite sure what travel experience you're looking for, getting started can sometimes be a little daunting. Which is where Travelbag's expert Travel Consultants come in. Because they've actually experienced the Far East, they can help you plan your trip and give you the inspiration you need. Here are just a few ideas for holiday combinations in the Far East. Dali Pagodas, Yunnan Thailand Culture & Beach 11 Days Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Phuket Days 1-3: Bangkok For the first-time visitor to Thailand this itinerary encompasses the varied landscapes and experiences that are on offer in this spectacular country. Staying in a Bangkok city hotel for three nights, you have time to explore the city's temples and learn about its history, including a visit to the Golden Buddha. You will also take a day trip to the ancient city of Ayuthaya the former Siamese capital, 86km north of Bangkok, where magnificent temples, palaces and crumbling fortresses provide eloquent testimony to the city's former splendour. Days 4- 5: Chiang Mai Fly from Bangkok to the cultural city of Chiang Mai, situated in the north of Thailand and with a laid-back feel that will be welcome after the bustle of Bangkok. Explore the city's temples including Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, where ancient steps representing a mythological serpent lead to the temple, before you take advantage of the superb night market to pick up some bargains. Outside the city enjoy an exhilarating elephant trek or bamboo rafting trip down the river. Chiang Mai MYANMAR THAILAND LAOS Bangkok CAMBODIA Phuket Langkawi Penang Days 6-11: Phuket Fly from Chiang Mai (via Bangkok) to Phuket, one of Thailand's most popular beach destinations. This spectacular island protrudes from the sparkling Andaman Sea and offers some of the finest stretches of beaches in Asia with a backdrop of lush green hills and coconut groves. A gateway to the Andaman Sea islands and worldclass dive sites, Phuket is the perfect place to relax and unwind for the last few days of an unforgettable trip. Malaysia City & Islands 11 Days Kuala Lumpur - Penang - Langkawi Days 1-2: Kuala Lumpur This fantastic 11-day holiday takes advantage of the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Kuala Lumpur before a relaxing twin-centre beach break. While in Kuala Lumpur, known as `KL' by the locals, explore all of the city's best attractions including the Petronas Twin Towers, the Royal Palace and bustling China Town. Venturing further afield, view the spectacular Batu Caves, home of Hindu deities. KL is a great place for sightseeing and shopping and you will find there is plenty to keep you entertained in this wonderful city. Days 3-6: Penang After a short flight you will arrive on the scenic island of Penang. Often referred to as the `Pearl of the Orient', Penang offers miles of golden sandy beaches, the best known of which is Batu Ferringhi where most hotel development has taken place. The island also offers a wealth of multi-cultural heritage within its capital city Georgetown, a former British trading post, which comes alive at night when its many temples are brightly illuminated. See the city while enjoying a trishaw ride through Georgetown in the evening. THAILAND MALAYSIA Kuala Lumpur Days 7-11: Langkawi From Penang fly directly to Pulau Langkawi, the main island in a cluster of 104 islands scattered throughout the Andaman Sea, off the northwest coast of Malaysia. Langkawi has retained its rural laid-back charm, with few major developments on the island, offering a different face of the country. A naturally beautiful island, it is the gateway to Pulau Payar National Marine Park. During your last five days in Malaysia, explore the island or just relax on the deserted sandy beaches that fringe the island before flying back to KL. 10 Visit www.travelbag.co.uk
