The Palace On Wheels
8 Days Delhi to Delhi. Escorted Group Journey.
Consisting of 16 carriages, with twin-bed en-suite cabins and 2 restaurants, the Palace on Wheels is a private train which takes an enchanting journey to the forts, palaces and national parks of the princely state of Rajasthan before culminating in a visit to the Taj Mahal. of mammals including the tiger. Driving into the heart of this stunning park an experienced guide is on hand to help seek out the elusive tiger. Returning to the train, you continue to Chittorgarh, where a late afternoon arrival gives plenty of time for a tour of the fort. (BLD) Day 6: Udaipur This morning a short coach drive takes you to the beautiful lake city of Udaipur where time is spent visiting both the City Palace and the Lake Palace, a palace which seems to float on the waters of Lake Pichola. Returning to the train, your journey now heads north, towards Agra, and the Taj Mahal. (BLD) Day 7: Agra An early arrival in Bharatpur allows for a visit to the Keoladeo bird sanctuary. Transferring to a coach you drive to Fatephur Sikri, the former capital of Mughal India. Continuing to Agra your full day tour ends with a visit to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the incomparable Taj Mahal. Return by coach to Bharatpur from where you depart to Delhi. (BLD) Day 8: Delhi This morning you arrive back into Delhi where your tour ends with a transfer to either your chosen hotel, airport or railway station for your onward journey.
Palace on Wheels is a very popular tour and is often fully booked many months prior to departure therefore early booking is essential.
Departures: Every Wednesday between September - April. Day 1: Delhi Your trip begins with a morning tour of New Delhi before transferring to the railway station; here you will board the Palace on Wheels and begin your 7 night journey for the highlights of north India. (LD) Day 2: Jaipur An early morning arrival in the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur allows for a full day sightseeing tour in and around the 'Pink City'. Inside the walled old city, visits are made to the famous Palace of the Winds, City Palace and the ancient observatory, Jantar Mantar. A short drive outside of the city takes you to the stunning hilltop fort at Amber. Dinner is served on the train. (BLD) Day 3: Jaisalmer Travelling through the night across the Thar Desert ensures a morning arrival in Jaisalmer. Here you pass the havelis in
the twisting city lanes before visiting the yellow sandstone fort, which towers magnificently over this desert outpost. In the afternoon there is the opportunity for an exciting camel ride on the sand dunes of Sam. (BLD) Day 4: Jodhpur Following your arrival in Jodhpur, a tour takes you to the imposing Mehrangarh Fort which stands some 120 metres above the blue-washed houses of the city below. Looking out from the fort across the city it is possible to see perhaps one of the finest palaces in India, Umaid Bhawan Palace. Lunch is taken in this grand building, which remains the residence of the Maharaja of Jodhpur, although now partially converted into a luxury hotel. Departures: Daily Days 1 & 2: Arrive Delhi Upon arrival in Delhi you are met and transferred to The Oberoi, New Delhi, for a two-night stay. Delhi is a city of contrasts and is best explored on a full day guided tour. Your tour takes you from the colonial inspired buildings of New Delhi, into the heart of Old Delhi where you travel by rickshaw through the colourful markets.
