Within the walls of the Pink City is one of India's most delightful character hotels, Samode Haveli. This former merchant's house was built in the 19th century and has now been intimately restored. The property is built around a courtyard, with beautiful gardens and a large pool. Formerly a royal palace constructed over 250 years ago, the Lake Palace is now one of India's most luxurious hotels. What makes this hotel so memorable is its magnificent location, as it seemingly rises from the waters in the middle of Lake Pichola. With the backdrop of the majestic Aravalli Mountains on one side of the lake, and lofty palaces on the other, the Lake Palace spreads across a four-acre island and as it is approached by boat it seems an almost surreal vision with its marble clad walls arising from the waters. As expected, the guest rooms are exquisitely decorated reflecting the opulence of a regal past. For a special celebration we would recommend a stay in one of the hotel's 18 suites.
