· Time: GMT +9 · Flying Time from UK: Approx 12 hours · Language: Japanese. · Currency: Yen (JPY) £1 = JPY 235 approx. · Departure Tax: JPY 2040 from Narita airport and JPY 2650 from Kansai airport. These are included in the airfare. · Visa Requirements: Visas are not required by British passport holders for stays of up to three months. · Getting Around: Travel by rail is the most cost effective and quickest method available. Japan has an extensive, efficient and modern rail service connecting cities throughout the country with 7, 14 and 21 day standard or first class passes which are available to buy prior to arrival for foreign tourists only (see page 125 for prices and further details on the Japan Rail Pass). · Festivals, Events & Busy Times: Obon Period (Jul) is a Japanese Buddhist holiday and has grown into a busy time when families travel and get together. Golden Week (Apr-May) includes various national holidays where many Japanese take time off on the intervening days.
