10 Days Kuching to Kota Kinabalu, Independent Tour.
Tour BA01
Bako National Park
Departures: Daily Day 1: Kuching On arrival at Kuching airport you will be met and transferred to the Hilton for a two-night stay. The rest of the day is at leisure. Accommodation: Hilton Kuching Hotel Day 2-5: Bako National Park Kuching Nanga Sumpa Longhouse Kuching Your tour on days 2-5 will follow the same itinerary as days 2-5 on the Sarawak Highlights tour (see tour description below). From Kuching proceed to Bako National Park (alternative tour to Gunung Gading National Park in the event of inclement weather), followed by 2 nights in Batang Ai. Spend time with the Iban people to learn about their culture, explore the rainforest, try your hand at fishing and enjoy local delicacies served in the traditional longhouse. Day 6: Kuching Kota Kinabalu After breakfast, fly from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort (see page 65 for details) for your two-night stay. (B) Accommodation: Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort Day 7: Kota Kinabalu Kinabalu Park Enjoy a delicious breakfast before you depart for Kinabalu Park where the park's naturalist will take you on a guided nature walk. After lunch, view an informative slide presentation and explore the mountain garden. (BL) Days 8-9: Kota Kinabalu Selingan Sukau Transfer to the airport for an early morning flight to Sandakan and on to Selingan Turtle Island. In the evening enjoy a visit to watch the Green Turtles laying their eggs. Next morning, visit the renowned Sepilok Orang-Utan Rehabilitation Sanctuary. Continue with a cruise down the Kinabatangan River before checking in to the Sukan Lodge. (BLD) Accommodation: Island Chalet
Day 10: Sukau Sandakan Kota Kinabalu This morning take a relaxing river cruise to Sandakan where on arrival you will visit the Water Village and a beautiful Buddhist temple before stopping for lunch. In the afternoon transfer back to the airport for your flight back to Kota Kinabalu where your tour ends. (BL)
Accommodation on days 3, 4, 8 & 9 is basic but clean and comfortable. We cannot guarantee that turtles will lay their eggs on your visit to Selingan Island.

Departures: Daily Day 1: Arrive Kuching On arrival at Kuching Airport you will be met and transferred to the Kuching Hilton for a two-night stay. The rest of the day is at leisure. Accommodation: Hilton Kuching Hotel Day 2: Bako National Park Depart early this morning for a full day excursion to Bako National Park (weather dependent). Bako is one of the best places in Sarawak to see local wildlife in a natural surrounding, including proboscis monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, long tail macaques, monitor lizards and numerous species of birds. Enjoy a jungle trek, stop for a refreshing swim in the sea and relax at one of the secluded beaches. Please note that this tour is not advisable during bad weather or rough sea conditions and may be replaced with a day trip to Gunung Gading National Park. (BL) Day 3: Kuching Nanga Sumpa Longhouse Today, journey through rural Sarawak to Nanga Sumpa Longhouse passing through cocoa and rubber plantations.
En route visit a pepper garden and the colourful native market in Serian town where a variety of jungle produce such as bamboo shoots and unusual tropical fruit are on display. On arrival in Nanga Sumpa, settle in at the Borneo Adventure jungle lodge for a two-night stay. After a delicious dinner, proceed to the longhouse across the river. Relax on the ruai (common verandah) and spend time with the Iban people to learn about their culture and enjoy some local rice wine. (BLD) Accommodation: Borneo Adventure Jungle Lodge Day 4: Nanga Sumpa Longhouse After breakfast, hike along the jungle trails to the picturesque Enseluai waterfall. There will be time to relax, swim, explore the rainforest or try fishing Iban-style. Dinner will be served in the lodge. (BLD) Day 5: Nanga Sumpa Longhouse Kuching Embark on a longboat and depart downriver for a relaxing river cruise through scenic landscape. Lunch en route, then return to Kuching for an overnight stay. (BL) Accommodation: Hilton Kuching Hotel
Day 6: Depart Kuching Your tour ends upon check out of your hotel. (B)
Iban Lady
Accommodation is quite basic on days 3 & 4. The sleeping quarters consist of eight sizeable rooms with a platform bed on a raised wooden plinth, each with fresh linen and a mosquito net. The bathrooms have cold water showers and western-style toilets. There is no electricity, but the place is lit up in the evening by oil lamps providing a warm, cosy atmosphere. Stay at Hilton Batang-Ai instead for one or both of these nights for an additional supplement.
