From incredible birdlife, to sloth bears, elephants and even leopards the parks of Sri Lanka are a wildlife lover's dream. For many, the ultimate wilderness experience is to spend time in one of the parks staying in luxury at an isolated wilderness camp. Set up in the park in advance of your arrival your tent is fully equipped with fixed beds, separate shower and toilet. Fully supported by expert staff including a naturalist guide, days are spent on safari whilst as the sun goes down over the park a camp fire is lit, cold drinks are enjoyed before a superb gourmet meal is served. This experience can be arranged in any of the parks in Sri Lanka and can be tailored to appeal to individual needs be it a 2 week safari or a 2 night add-on to a beach stay or a cultural itinerary. We would especially recommend a stay in one of the following. Yala National Park: The thick untouched jungles offer a unique tranquillity and empathy with nature. By the picturesque `villus' (waterholes), catch a glimpse of a leopard sunning itself on a bough, or a lone elephant crashing through trees. Udawalawe National Park: An elephant-lover's dream. The grasslands around the Udawalawe Lake are the range for huge numbers of these magnificent beasts. Sinharaja Rain Forest: Its rare trees and plants make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Trails through the forest are teeming with rare birds, butterflies and mammals. Prices start at £345 per person for 2 nights accommodation on a twin share basis. Price includes all national park fees, games drive and all-inclusive meals. Summerville bungalow In central Sri Lanka, easily accessed by car from Colombo, Kandy, Galle and the beach resorts is the Bogawantalawa Valley, known as the 'Golden Valley of Tea'. Here in solitude, at an elevation of 4000 feet above sea level, lies Ceylon Tea Trails, 4 classic colonial bungalows built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj. These historic houses have been restored to an exceptionally high standard, to offer guests the unique experience of life on a working tea estate. Bungalow sizes range from 4 to 6 rooms; 20 luxurious rooms and suites in all. A stay at one of the Tea Trails bungalows is a perfect opportunity to unwind. Here you set your own pace. Relax in the beautiful gardens, visit a factory for a gentle education in the art of Ceylon Tea or spend an adventure-filled day biking, trekking and white-water rafting. With a butler on hand, every detail has been considered in ensuring that your stay at Tea Trails is unforgettable. Prices start at £115 per person per night on a twin share, all-inclusive basis.
