Chilean Lake District
Chile's Lake District is a verdant land of rivers and fertile valleys, and of charming lakeside resorts towered over by snow-capped volcanoes. Heading south into Northern Patagonia along the Carretera Austral, the landmass fragments into a multitude of fjords, and islands such as Chiloé, where traditional fishing villages co-exist with ancient legends and myth. Boat cruises and spa resorts abound, and you can even cross the spine of the Andes into Argentina.
4 Day Lakes & Volcanoes
Departures: Daily, except Thu & Fri Day 1: Arrive Puerto Varas & The Settler's Route On arrival at Puerto Montt Airport, you will be met and transferred to your chosen hotel in the scenic lakeside town of Puerto Varas. Local architecture reflects the influence of German settlers who arrived here over 100 years ago, and on this afternoon's tour you will see their original settlements. Admire the stunning Osorno Volcano from La Poza Lagoon, where a short cruise takes you to Loreley Island, a birdwatcher's heaven. Standard: Hotel Bellavista Superior: Hotel and Cabañas del Lago (Superior Room) Days 2 & 3: Chilean Lake District Enjoy your choice of two of the wonderful excursions below, dependent on the day of the week: Mon, Wed & Fri: Alerce Andino National Park Take a hike through the rugged but lush rainforest to the ancient larch trees of the Los Sargazos Lagoon. Tue, Thu, Fri & Sun: Frutillar & Puerto Octay Discover the charming summer beach resort of Frutillar, known for its German heritage, and the attractive village of Puerto Octay, on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. Tue, Thu & Sun: Osorno Volcano Travel along the shores of Lake Llanquihue to the emerald waterfalls at Petrohué. After lunch at a lakeside café, continue to the magnificent Osorno Volcano. Hike through ancient forest to the Verde Lagoon and, after ascending 1,000 metres above sea level, stop to enjoy spectacular panoramic views. (BL) Day 4: Puerto Varas - Puerto Montt Today, tour the towns of Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt before being taken to the airport in Puerto Montt for your onward flight connection. (B)

5 Day Discover Chiloé Island
Departures: Daily Day 1: Puerto Montt - Ancud (Chiloé Island) On arrival into Puerto Montt Airport, you will be met and transferred to the local bus station for your 2.5hr journey to Ancud at the northern tip of Chiloé, and check into the modest but comfortable Hosteria Ancud for a two-night stay. This afternoon, enjoy an orientation tour, visiting the Spanish Fortress of San Antonio, Fisherman's Wharf and the Ancud Regional Museum. Overnight: Hosteria Ancud Day 2: Ancud Sightseeing Enjoy a morning excursion to the quirky, open-air museum at Puente Quilo and Fortress Ahui, an 18th Century Spanish stronghold. This afternoon, visit either the flamingos and black-necked swans at Caulin Bay, or weather-permitting, the penguin colony at Puñihuil. (B) Day 3: Ancud - Castro Today, enjoy sightseeing en-route to the island's capital town, Castro and check-in for a two-night stay. This afternoon's excursion will take you to the colourful Church of San Francisco, Castro's handicraft market and the Modern Art Museum which displays innovative works by local artists from Chiloé. (B) Overnight: Hosteria Castro Day 4: Chiloé National Park Sightseeing Today's explorations take you to the beaches, dunes and forests of Chiloé National Park, which borders the crashing surf of the Pacific Ocean. Visit the World Heritage Site churches at Nercon and Chonchi en-route, and take time to stroll the rainforest trail at El Tepual. (BL) Day 5: Castro - Puerto Montt Transfer to the local bus station for the 4-hour journey back to Puerto Montt, where on arrival you will be met and transferred back to the airport for your flight.
