Day 1: Arrive Lima On arrival in Lima you will be met and transferred to your chosen hotel for a two-night stay. Standard: Casa Andina Lima Superior: Doubletree El Pardo Hotel Deluxe: Miraflores Park Hotel (Ocean View Room) Day 2: Lima City Sightseeing This morning you will have the chance to discover the best of colonial and modern Lima on a fabulous three-hour city tour. Visit the Plaza Mayor with its impressive bronze fountain and the beautifully restored 17th Century San Francisco Monastery, where an estimated 70,000 people have been buried in the well known catacombs. Continue to the pre-Inca pyramid, Huaca Huallamarca, where you will have the chance to visit the museum before travelling to the exclusive suburb of Miraflores, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean. (Please note Huallamarca is closed on Mondays, and you will be unable to enter the museum). (B) Day 3: Lima ­ Cuzco - The Sacred Valley After breakfast, transfer to Lima Airport for your flight (not included) to Cuzco. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Sacred Valley, a region of outstanding beauty. Today, visit the bright and vibrant Pisac Indian market, where you will see a fantastic blend of colour, tradition and local people. After a delicious lunch, continue to Ollantaytambo, a charming village surrounded by snowcapped mountains that remains unchanged since Inca times and is home to the remarkable Inca stone fortress. This hotel is situated in the heart of the valley and, from here, you can enjoy sensational views of the mountains. (BL) All categories: Pakaritampu Hotel Day 4: The Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu Today, visit Machu Picchu, an experience never to be forgotten. After an early breakfast you will board the train for a fascinating journey by narrow-gauge rail to the town of Aguas Calientes from where it is just a 30-minute bus ride to the entrance of `The Lost City of the Incas'. The views and ruins are beyond belief and your guide will bring this `Lost City' to life. Later you will have time at leisure to explore the ruins by yourself. Depending on your choice of accommodation you may spend the evening at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, a peaceful haven on the mountaintop, just seconds from the actual ruins. Alternatively, if you choose to stay at the Machu Picchu Pueblo or Hatuchay Hotel in Aguas Calientes, you will enjoy the vibrant village atmosphere and views of the Urubamba River. (BLD) Standard: Hatuchay Hotel Superior: Machu Picchu Pueblo Deluxe: Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge Day 5: Machu Picchu ­ Cuzco This morning is at leisure. You may want to return to the ruins for sunrise, browse through the markets of Aguas Calientes or simply soak in the hot springs while enjoying the outstanding scenery. Later in the afternoon, travel to Cuzco by train, arriving early evening. Transfer to your chosen accommodation for a three-night stay. (B) Standard: Casa Andina Cuzco Superior: Jose Antonio Cuzco Deluxe: Monasterio Cuzco (Deluxe Room) Day 6: Full Day at Leisure A day at leisure to relax or go shopping, you will find a wide array of beautiful handmade Andean textiles and handicrafts. Visit the amazing ruined fortress of Sacsayhuaman, just a short taxi ride from Cuzco. This evening enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants around the bustling Plaza de Armas. (B) Day 7: Cuzco - Lake Titicaca You will be collected early in the morning from your hotel and transferred to Cuzco railway station to board the train bound for Puno. Owned by Orient Express, the carriages on the train offer the highest standards of comfort, décor and dining. On the journey the train makes a gentle climb to higher, cooler altitudes, passing the magnificent snowcapped Andean mountains. You will travel past remote Andean villages and rolling plains where vicuñas and llamas are often seen. At La Raya, the highest point, you will make a scenic stop. Here you will have the opportunity to take photographs and buy local crafts. This unforgettable journey takes a total of ten hours and includes a threecourse lunch. On arrival in Puno you will be met and transferred to your choice of accommodation on the shores of Lake Titicaca. (BL) Standard: Sonesta Posada del Inca Puno Superior & Deluxe: Casa Andina Private Collection Day 8: Puno to Sun Island This morning, travel by road along the shores of Lake Titicaca to Copacabana in Bolivia, clearing immigration enroute. After time to explore the charming town and its interesting cathedral, board a hydrofoil and cruise across the legendary lake to Moon Island where you will visit the ruins of an Inca temple. Continue to Sun Island, considered by Aymara and Quechua people to be the sacred birthplace of the Incas. You will have a free afternoon to walk the paths and explore the small settlements on this peaceful island, before spending the night in a small hotel full of character - don't forget to check out the views and the amazing night sky from the gardens.
