The Pantanal
The wetlands of the Pantanal are home to a massive variety of fauna, including hyacinth macaws, capybaras, caimans and monkeys. As vegetation is less dense than in the Amazon basin, chances of spotting the wildlife are much greater, especially in the dry season (May to Oct) when the floods retreat and animals congregate around the remaining water. Lodges deep in the Pantanal are accessible from Campo Grande and Cuiabá.
4 Day Discover the Southern Pantanal
Refúgio Ecológico Caiman is located on a 53,000 hectare working cattle ranch in the southern Pantanal, approximately 4 hours by road from Campo Grande airport. It consists of 4 lodges scattered across the farm property, all with their own pool and dining room. Rooms are air-conditioned with private bathrooms and hot running water. Departures: Thursday (4 Day Package) & Sunday (5 Day Package) Day 1: Campo Grande - The Pantanal On arrival in Campo Grande, you will be transferred to Pousada Caiman and shown to your lodge. After dinner, take an evening spotlighting tour to see some of the Pantanal's nocturnal inhabitants. (D) Ovenight: Pousada Caiman for 3 nights Day 2: Farm Tour & Ecological Trail Hike After breakfast, enjoy a walking tour of the farm, visiting the hyacinth macaw project and getting up close to the caimans under your guide's careful supervision. This afternoon, walk along a forest trail to learn about the Pantanal's huge variety of subtropical flora, and look out for howler and capuchin monkeys in the treetops. Dinner will be followed by a fascinating presentation about the Pantanal. (BLD) Day 3: Horseback Riding & Canoeing This morning, saddle up for a trail ride across the ranch, accompanied by your guide and a local cowboy. On this afternoon's canoe trip look out for caimans, mammals and aquatic birds. Dinner this evening will be a delicious traditional Brazilian barbecue. (BLD) Day 4: Pantanal - Campo Grande Depending on your flight time from Campo Grande today, either take an early transfer to the airport, or enjoy a final jeep safari before leaving the lodge. (B)

4 Day Northern Pantanal Experience
The Pousada do Rio Mutum is located next to the Mutum River in the hilly northern Pantanal, close to large lakes Sia Mariana and Chacorore, around 4 hours from Cuiabá airport. The lodge has a swimming pool and bar, and each of the 16 rooms have air-conditioning and private en-suite bathrooms with hot running water.
