Can anything be more strikingly beautiful than New Englands autumnal display of foliage? Velvet reds, vivid yellows and glowing golds decorate the already glorious countryside, against the backdrop of clear blue skies and enchanting white clapboard homesteads.
In a country mostly obsessed with modernity, New England stands apart. This is the very cradle of independence, and the friendly mannered folk of these beautiful north-eastern states share a deep-rooted pride in the heritage they created for America. Neat villages, white clapboard churches and tidy rows of terraced cottages attest to their rich history and tradition. This tour combines the blazing scenic wonderland of Vermont and New Hampshire with the historic maritime Canadian cities of Quebec and Montreal. You also visit the awesome Niagara Falls before a final two nights amidst the excitement of New York. YoUr itiNErarY DaY 1 - Depart on your scheduled flight to Boston, in Massachusetts, the natural starting point for any tour of New England. Three nights accommodation has been arranged in the Boston area. DaY 2 - Today we take you into Boston the principal city of New England to begin your tour. So much of Bostons revolutionary past has been preserved. The narrow, winding streets and squares of the old quarter provide an abrupt and delightful contrast with the citys modern skyscrapers and bustling cosmopolitan lifestyle. Boston also boasts perhaps the finest seafood in the world. On our included morning sightseeing tour you will follow parts of the famous Freedom Trail and the Granary Burial Ground. You will also visit the harbour (site of the Boston Tea Party), Beacon hill, Quincy Market and Cambridge, home of harvard university. Afternoon free to enjoy this wonderful city before returning to your hotel. DaY 3 - An exciting full day optional tour to beautiful Cape Cod. You will also visit Plymouth, where Americas founding fathers first set foot in the New World. DaY 4 - Morning departure for the drive into New hampshire. The countryside is reminiscent of parts of Britain, but on a much grander scale, with thousands of square miles of forest ready to burst into multi-coloured splendour every autumn. View the magnificent colours as you drive to North Conway. Overnight stop in the Mount Washington area. DaY 5 - A leisurely day amidst New Englands glorious countryside. Drive through the White Mountains and Franconia Notch State Park into Vermont. A short visit will be made to Montpelier, the smallest state capital in the USA, before continuing to the Stowe area for an overnight stop. DaY 6 - Drive northwards through the gentle Vermont countryside to the Canadian border and on to Montreal. The magnificent bilingual city of Montreal occupies an island at the junction of the st. Lawrence and Ottawa rivers. Although hundreds of miles from the sea, it is a major port and Canadas second city. Montreal boasts a wealth of historic sites amidst its cobbled streets, 17th century buildings, beautiful gardens and parks. There are many fine restaurants, and French influence is still evident in the open-air cafés and street markets. During the afternoon we have included a sightseeing tour of the city. We have arranged three nights accommodation in Montreal. DaY 7 - Today we have included a full day excursion to Quebec City with a sightseeing tour of the old city. Quebec City is the bastion of French influence and culture in Canada. It is the
