All rooms have private facilities, TV and telephone. Your Trains All trains are operated by Amtrak. You'll be aboard comfortable, double-deck Superliner coaches, where the restaurant, viewing lounge and much of the sleeping accommodation is on the top deck. Meals are included on overnight journeys. Your sleeping accommodation will be in a compact roomette with picture window and two large, reclining seats that convert into a lowerberth, along with a pull-down upper berth for the night time. The washroom, shower and WC facilities are close by in the carriage. Fresh towels, bed linen and soap are supplied, as well as bottled water and a daily newspaper. Upgrades are available. Capitol Limited The Capitol Limited train runs from Washington D.C., following the old Baltimore & Ohio railroad route through the Potomac Valley and across Ohio and Indiana to Chicago. (One night's accommodation with dinner & breakfast). California Zephyr We travel aboard the California Zephyr from Chicago to Denver, and then from Denver to Grand Junction along the Denver and Rio Grande railroad. (One night's accommodation with dinner & breakfast). Southwest Chief We board the Southwest Chief in Flagstaff, Arizona for the final leg of its journey to Los Angeles. (One night's accommodation with breakfast). Coast Starlight The Coast Starlight journeys up and down the Pacific coast, from Los Angeles to Seattle, however we disembark at San Francisco.
MONUMENT VALLEY
This is a truly epic adventure across wide open spaces and through fascinating towns and cities as you travel from east to west aboard Amtrak Superliner trains. With accommodation in comfortable roomettes' with large picture windows and observation galleries, you can sit back and watch America pass by.
YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Depart on your scheduled flight to New York. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. DAY 2 - We include a sightseeing tour of New York the city that never sleeps. You'll also enjoy a cruise around the harbour under Brooklyn Bridge and past the astounding Statue of Liberty. DAY 3 - Free to explore more of this magical city for yourself. Why not take a trip to the top of the Empire State Building, or shop till you drop in the world famous department stores of Macy's, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue. Escape the crowded streets with a stroll in Central Park, or visit one of the wonderful museums New York is known for. DAY 4 - Take the train southwards to Washington D.C., the capital city of the United States of America. You will stay in Washington for two nights. We include a tour of the city, where highlights include the White House and Capitol Hill. DAY 5 - At leisure to discover more about Washington D.C. for yourself. Why not pay a visit to one of the museums of the Smithsonian Institute, or the Ford Theatre, where Abraham Lincoln was assassinated? DAY 6 - Embark the Capitol Limited train for your 18 hour, 760 mile journey to Chicago. DAY 7 - Arrive in Chicago after breakfast, and enjoy a sightseeing tour taking in all the highlights of the city. The afternoon is free for you to explore the Windy City' for yourself. Perhaps take a trip up the Sears Tower, from where there are spectacular views across the city. DAY 8 - This morning you are at leisure in Chicago, before boarding the California Zephyr for your overnight journey to Denver. DAY 9 - Arrive in Denver this morning, with the rest of the day free to explore this former goldrush town. DAY 10 - Today we include a fabulous coach journey into the spectacular American Rocky Mountain National Park, Big Thompson Canyon and Estes Park. DAY 11 - Your journey today is one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the USA as you re-board the California Zephyr to travel along the route of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad through the Rocky Mountains to the city of Grand Junction. You will stay overnight in Grand Junction.
