The Silk Route is no longer for backpackers and trekkers only! Improvements to air services, hotels and roads now mean we can reveal to you the glories of the ancient trade routes from China into central Asia. Whilst the transport infrastructure has been developed, the sights and sounds of the Silk Route remain firmly embedded in the past. This is a dimension of China, indeed of the world, you will not see anywhere else.

DAY 9 - Morning drive along the old Silk Route into the desert to the remarkably preserved ruins of the Custom House and fort at the Jade Gate Pass. You will also see the very western extremity of the Great Wall, from where the traders set out towards the Heavenly Mountains.
