This once in a lifetime trip will take you through remote and staggeringly beautiful Tibet, situated high up in the Himalayas. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Depart on your scheduled flight to Shanghai. DAY 2 - Arrival in Shanghai, where you will be met by your Tour Manager and Chinese guide, before transferring to your hotel for a three night stay. DAY 3 - Shanghai is a vibrant and exciting city. We include a city sightseeing tour and an evening visit to an Acrobatic Show. DAY 4 - Join our included full day tour by train to Suzhou. DAY 5 - Transfer to the airport for the flight to Chongqing, where you will board your cruise ship for a three night cruise along the mighty Yangtze. DAYS 6 & 7 - You will cruise to the Three Gorges Dam, then through the Xiling, Wuxia and Qutang Gorges, taking a side trip up the Shennong Stream. DAY 8 - Morning arrival in Yichang. Transfer to Wuhan for your flight to Xian, where you stay for two nights. DAY 9 - We include a visit to the site of the Terracotta Army at Li Shan Mountain and the nearby Han Tombs. In the evening, join our optional Tang Dynasty folklore show. DAY 10 - Included morning city tour of Xian followed by a transfer to the airport for your flight to Lhasa. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. DAYs 11 & 12 - Enjoy our included sightseeing programme of Lhasa, which is taken at a relaxed pace in order to acclimatise to the high altitude. DAY 13 - Today you will board the train for your overnight journey from Lhasa to Xining. We not only travel 750 miles but also climb to an altitude of almost 17,000 ft. The Great Wall Xining DAY 14 - On arrival in Xining transfer to the airport for your flight to Chengdu. On arrival transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay. DAY 15 - Morning departure for the drive to the Wolong Nature Reserve. Lunchtime arrival at your hotel, where overnight accommodation has been arranged. After lunch, you will visit the Sanctuary. DAY 16 - This morning you will pay a visit to the Panda Museum, before the drive back to Chengdu after lunch for an overnight stay. DAY 17 - Transfer to the airport for your flight to Beijing for a three night stay. Included introductory city tour. DAY 18 - Beijing is an extraordinary city. Today we include a visit to Tian an Men Square, and the incredible Forbidden City, home to the Imperial Palace. After lunch, visits will be made to Beijing Zoo, to see the pandas, and the magnificent Summer Palace. DAY 19 - This morning we include a visit to the Great Wall, where you will have plenty of time to walk along the historic ramparts and marvel at its size and grandeur. Lunch is followed by a visit to the remarkable Ming Tombs where thirteen emperors are buried. During the evening there will be a special Peking Duck dinner. DAY 20 - Transfer to Beijing airport for your return flight to the UK. As you will be flying westwards your arrival is later the same day. Your Hotels You will stay in hotels such as the Friendship Hotel in Beijing, the Xian Hotel in Xian, the Zhao An Hotel in Shanghai and the Tibet Hotel in Lhasa. All rooms feature private facilities, air conditioning or heating as required, TV, telephone and a constant supply of tea. Other facilities include western and Chinese restaurants and bars. In Wolong you will stay in the Panda Inn or similar. Accommodation is simple with all rooms featuring private facilities. Your Ship You will cruise the Yangtze Gorges aboard the MV Sunshine or similar. This cruise vessel has twin cabins with private facilities for approximately 130 persons and features a restaurant, bar, coffee shop, viewing deck and is fully air-conditioned. Your Train Your journey will be in air-conditioned modern soft 4-berth carriages which convert into your sleeping quarters for the overnight parts of your journey. All compartments are fitted with windows and are pressurised so you should not suffer from altitude sickness. There are bathrooms at the end of each carriage plus a restaurant car. In case of altitude sickness an experienced doctor will be on board. For dates and prices see page 13 Beijing East China Sea Altitude During this tour you will travel to altitudes of almost 17,000ft which should not cause a problem. During the train journey you will travel in pressurised compartments and oxygen is available if necessary. If you suffer from heart or respiratory conditions or have any other concerns please consult your doctor.
