A highlight of the tour is a memorable rail journey between the two centres Across the Roof of Norway, a superb journey past forests, Alpine villages and the starkly beautiful Hardangervidda Plateau. Add to this plenty of festive fayre, a tipple or two, a horse-drawn sleigh ride and perhaps a wilderness safari and you have a spectacular Christmas break. Your ItInerarY MonDaY 22nd - Depart on your scheduled flight to Oslo. On arrival transfer to your centrally located hotel, within easy walking distance of the citys main attractions, for a two night stay. Oslo, Norways capital city, lies at the tip of its own fjord and is justly proud of its reputation for art and culture. From the unusual Vigeland Sculpture Park to the Kon Tiki Museum, Oslo is a joy to explore. This surprisingly unspoilt city enjoys a stunning setting with islands, lakes and forests within the city boundaries. tueSDaY 23rd - This morning we include a panoramic tour of the city highlights including a visit to the Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Holmenkollen Ski Jump. The afternoon is free to explore at your own pace you could take a stroll around the picturesque harbour area teeming with shops and cafés. CHrIStMaS eVe - Look forward to a day of magnificent scenery as we travel from Oslo to Geilo aboard the Bergen Line Mountain Railway on the journey known as Across the Roof of Norway. The four hour trip is one of the most scenic in the world and takes you through the dramatic interior of Norway where the winter landscape changes constantly from mountain to sea, from forest to fjord a truly memorable experience. Lunch can be bought on the train. On arrival we transfer by coach to the hotel in Geilo for a three night stay. CHrIStMaS DaY - Relax or join an optional Wilderness Safari, which is arranged locally. You will have the chance to visit a mountain farm and wildlife park, and you may see moose in the wild along with wolves, lynx and reindeer. Traditional buffet-style Christmas dinner at the hotel this evening.
BoXInG DaY - Join our included full day excursion, a famous and popular trip which combines travel by train and coach. Our day begins with a short train journey to Myrdal where we board the Flåm Scenic Railway for an amazing ride down to Flåm. It is a fabulous experience as we descend over 2,000ft in less than an hour, through 20 tunnels, and with some incredible views. As you pass magnificent sights such as the spectacular Kjosfossen waterfall, you will see why this is, for many people, one of Norways most spectacular train journeys. We alight in Flåm on the edge of the scenic Aurlandsfjord and return to Geilo by coach, with a stop en-route for Norwegian cake and coffee. This evening join our included delightful horsedrawn sleigh ride through Geilo and work up an appetite ahead of your evening meal at the hotel. SaturDaY 27th - Depart Geilo taking the train back to Oslo and transfer to the airport by coach for your return flight to the UK. Your Hotel In Oslo you will stay in the centrally located Hotel Scandic KNA or similar with restaurant and bar. All bedrooms feature private facilities, telephone and TV. In Geilo you will stay at the friendly Park Inn Highland Hotel which offers a swimming pool, sauna, fitness room and sun beds, themed restaurants, piano bar and night club. All bedrooms feature private facilities, telephone, TV and some also have a balcony.
