Celebrate New Year the Icelandic way on the border of the Arctic Circle. Enjoy a festive dinner in the fabulous perlan revolving restaurant followed by a guided tour past Brenna Brenna (bonfire to bonfire) and watch the sky light up with amazing fireworks at midnight. The atmosphere is fantastic and it will certainly be a New Years Eve to remember.
Your ItInerarY MonDaY 29th - Depart on your scheduled flight to Keflavik. On arrival transfer to your hotel in Reykjavik for a four night stay. Dinner in the hotel this evening. tueSDaY 30th - Our half day tour of Reykjavik with a local guide takes in the fishing harbour, Parliament buildings, City Hall, National Museum, National Gallery and the huge hot water storage tanks, known as The Pearl, which have a restaurant above offering fantastic views of the city. This afternoon you are free to explore at your own pace, or participate in optional winter activities such as a jeep safari or a snowmobile tour. neW YearS eVe - Today you can join an optional excursion to the Golden Circle and visit the mighty waterfall at Gullfoss, where the Hvita River is covered in its winter coat. Theres a short walk around this Golden Waterfall to admire magnificent views, before continuing to the Strokkur Geyser, which erupts every five to eight minutes. You will be back at the hotel in plenty of time to prepare for the evenings festivities which begin with an aperitif and four course dinner with a half bottle of wine at the exclusive revolving Perlan restaurant. After the main course you will be taken on a coach tour of the Brenna, Brenna (bonfires) to see how the Icelanders celebrate this special evening. Remember to wrap up warm, as its very cold at this time of year. New Years Eve in Iceland certainly goes with a bang! The sky at midnight lights up with fireworks as the Icelanders enjoy their celebrations. We return to the Perlan for dessert and coffee, then toast 2009 with a glass of champagne at midnight, while enjoying the best views of the fireworks and dancing until the early hours. neW YearS DaY - After a leisurely breakfast, we include a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon, a natural geothermal pool located in the middle of a lava field. The steaming blue waters, soothing and rich in minerals, are reputed to have curative powers. You will have time for a soak, before returning to your hotel. This evening take the opportunity to sample one of Reykjaviks many restaurants. FrIDaY 2nd JanuarY 2009 - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Your HoteL You will stay in the modern, centrally located three star Hotel Reykjavik Centrum, just a short walk from the Laugavegur, the Icelandic capitals main shopping street and within easy walking distance of the old town. Hotel amenities include a lounge/bar, restaurant and lift. All bedrooms have private facilities, TV and minibar.
