PETERSBURG £1385 FULL BOARD Experience the magic of St. Petersburg, the beauty of the Russian countryside and the majesty of Moscow on this marvellous cruise along the River Volga aboard the MS Simonov. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Depart on your flight to St. Petersburg. On arrival transfer to the MS Simonov for a nine night cruise. DAY 2 - Today there is an included tour of St. Petersburg, introducing you to the sights of this fabulous city, including the Peter & Paul Fortress and the magnificent Winter Palace. In the afternoon there is an optional excursion to Peterhof, a collection of palaces and gardens known as the Russian Versailles (book onboard). DAY 3 - You will visit The Hermitage today, reputed to be the largest museum in the world, where you will see superb works of art, displayed in an absolutely wonderful building. This afternoon there will be a chance to visit one of the Royal familys summer palace, either at Pushkin or Pavlovsk (book onboard). In the evening the ship captain invites you for a welcome cocktail, before you set sail for Moscow. DAY 4 - Cruise across Lake Ladoga, the largest freshwater lake on the European plain, then along the River Svir. Free time to visit the riverside town of Mandrogy. DAY 5 - The cruise reaches Lake Onega, where you will visit the island of Kizhi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with remarkable wooden churches and bell tower, constructed without the use of a single nail. Take a look around the open-air museum at the inspiring collection of wooden structures rebuilt here. DAY 6 - Today you will continue your cruise along the Volga-Baltic waterway, reaching the village of Goritsy. From here you will take a coach to the famous Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, once the largest monastery in Russia. This incredible site is home to a vast array of icons, many given to the monastery by visiting tsars. DAY 7 - Today you will cross the Rybinsk reservoir and cruise the Upper Volga, to Uglich, one of the oldest cities in Russia. Take a walking tour around the city, visiting the church of St. Dmitry-on-the-Blood, built on the spot where Dmitry, son of Ivan the Terrible, was murdered. This evening, the captain invites you to a farewell dinner. DAY 8 - Arrival in Moscow. Take a tour of the major sights of this incredible city, such as the Kremlin, Red Square, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and St Basils Cathedral. Tonight you have the opportunity of attending a performance by the world-renowned State Circus (book onboard). DAY 9 - Today you will visit the Kremlin, a former fortress that is now the official residence of the Russian President. You will also have lunch on an excursion boat along the Moskva River, which runs through the centre of Moscow. The afternoon is then free for you to explore this fascinating city, or take one of the excursions that will be available on board. DAY 10 - Disembark the ship for your transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. MS SIMONOV Your cruise will be aboard the comfortable MS Simonov, with full board accommodation. There is a large sun deck with seating on which you can relax and watch the scenery roll by. Facilities on board include two restaurants, two bars, sun deck, lecture theatre, sauna and shop. Whilst on board there is an extensive programme of events, including music and dance performances, lectures and even lessons in basic Russian. Breakfast is served buffet-style, with lunch and dinner served at the table in a single sitting. Cabins are 2-berth outside cabins with large opening panoramic windows.
