Enjoy a fantastic week at a fabulous beachside hotel on the lovely Lisbon coast. Its a superb spot to relax and soak up the sun and a perfect base from which to discover the regions magnificent palaces, medieval walled cities and pretty fishing villages on our exciting excursion programme.
YOUR ResORT The delightful fishing village of Ericeira is perched on a rocky ledge overlooking glorious sandy beaches. You can stroll through the narrow streets lined with whitewashed houses to Praca de Republica, a pretty square where you can relax and watch the world go by in one of the tempting cafés and pastry shops, or sample the delicious local seafood in one of the excellent restaurants. InCLUDeD eXCURsIOn Lisbon - We spend the day in the elegant Portuguese capital. Our sightseeing tour takes us to see the delightful Alfama district for a stroll through the narrow, cobbled streets and the picturesque houses of this ancient Moorish quarter, then on to the riverside area of Belem, site of the Jeronimos Monastery and Monument to the Discoveries. There will be free time to explore at your own pace, before we return to the hotel. OPTIOnAL eXCURsIOns Sintra, Cascais & Cabo da roca - This full day trip starts at the hilltop town of Sintra to see the National Palace, the summer residence of the Kings of Portugal, before heading back to visit the stylish seaside resort of Cascais, then continuing to the Cabo da Roca lighthouse, the most westerly point in Europe. Mafra & Queluz - First stop of the day is the monastery at Mafra. Originally designed for just 13 friars, it grew into a massive and wealthy palace complex, complete with a basilica, royal residence and quarters for some 450 monks and novices. One of the highlights is the splendid rococo library with its magnificent marble floors that mirror the ceiling designs. We continue to the imposing Palace of Queluz set in wonderful 18th-century formal gardens. obidos, Alcobaça & Nazaré - Our excursion begins in the medieval city of Obidos with its cobbled streets, see whitewashed houses and wonderful views of the rolling hills of Estremadura from the golden towers, crenellated battlements and ramparts. We continue to Alcobaça to visit the Cistercian monastery, before ending the day with a visit to the traditional fishing village of Nazaré. Coimbra - Spend the day in the former Portuguese capital. Take a walk through the maze of narrow alleys and stepped streets and visit the splendid buildings and superb library of the ancient university, dating back to 1290. YOUR HOTeL You will stay at the contemporary, four star Hotel Vila Gale Ericeira, which is right on the beach and just five minutes from the town. Amenities include a bar, restaurant, outdoor swimming pool and a health club with beauty salon. All rooms feature private facilities, satellite TV, telephone, minibar, safe and hairdryer.
