The welcoming island of Madeira is home to enchanting gardens, picturesque villages and breathtaking views. The rugged scenery is stunning, with a backdrop of towering volcanic mountains contrasting with the deep blue of the ocean. Relax in the pleasant year-round sunshine and explore further on our included excursions and walks. The famous irrigation channels, or Levadas provide the perfect basis for some beautiful walks.
YOUR ITIneRARY DAy 1 - Depart on your scheduled flight to Funchal. Transfer to your hotel in Funchal for a seven night stay and enjoy a welcome drink and dinner this evening. DAyS 2 to 7 - Enjoy a wonderful programme of included walks and excursions. Gaula/Santo da Serra - A scenic Levada walk through some of the islands most beautiful and varied landscapes. Pass between mountains and valleys in the Santo da Serra region and notice the vegetation, vegetables, fruit and thousands of different flowers that decorate the terrace (approx. 3 ½ hours walk). Valleys & Waterfalls - A fabulous Levada walk through the stunning rabaçal Valley on the northwest side of the island. We stroll along paths lined with lush green vegetation to the risco waterfall. From here we descend to the Levada of 25 Fontes, which is a small lake at the foot of a towering cliff, with 25 natural springs flowing into it (approx. 3 ½ hours walk). Paradise Valley Walk - Take a pleasant walk along the Levada da Serra do Faial through this lovely region, surrounded by glorious flowers and majestic trees (approx. 2 ½ hours walk). Funchal - A half day city tour including a Madeira wine tasting and a visit to the Botanical Gardens. Please note that some of the Levada walks have steep drops and care must be taken. A range of optional excursions and walks will also be available. Your local representative will be happy to advise you. DAy 8 - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. YOUR HOTeL You will stay in the excellent Hotel Baia Azul situated in a quiet location, just 2 miles from the centre of Funchal. Hotel amenities include a restaurant with panoramic sea views, bar, coffee shop and lift. Leisure facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, squash court, gym and table tennis, plus at extra cost a sauna and Jacuzzi. Bedrooms feature private facilities, satellite TV, air-conditioning, minibar and balcony. There is entertainment most evenings and during the day a courtesy bus operates to the centre of Funchal.
Walking Information
Our walks require a reasonable level of fitness and ideally some previous walking experience. You will need comfortable walking boots, a small rucksack, waterproofs, a hat and sunglasses. A local guide will also accompany you on your walks. Grade 1 Walks These are for anyone of any age. Plenty of rest stops and time to enjoy the local scenery with up to 4 hours walking a day, mostly on good paths but occasionally rough underfoot. Ascent less than 300m per day. Grade 2 Walks These are moderate, for anyone who is comfortable walking hills. Still plenty of time to rest and enjoy the scenery, however up to 5 hours walking a day on slightly more rugged terrain. Ascent less than 500m per day.

Our April departure dates marked with an * coincide with Madeiras famous flower festival, which takes place each spring when the islands flowers are at their most glorious. Over two days you will be able to see colourful parades, gigantic floral floats, classical music concerts and a variety of shows. Its a delightful time to visit.
