LAKE LUCERNE
Dramatic, towering mountains and serene lakes this is Switzerland at its most beautiful. This holiday combines the lovely lakeside town of Lucerne with exciting optional excursions featuring mountain trains, a lake cruise, waterfalls and the massive peaks of the Bernese Oberland for an enchanting break amid some of Europes most stunning scenery.
Your base is delightful Lucerne.This historic town is set on the lake of the same name, and offers a range of impressive sights, a wonderful old town of narrow cobbled streets and a lovely lakeside promenade. From here discover the charms of the stunning Alps with our selection of wonderful optional excursions. your ItInerary Day 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning crossing to Calais. Continue into northern France for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Day 2 - Continue south-east, crossing into Switzerland at Basel. On arrival in Lucerne transfer to your hotel for a four night stay. Days 3 to 5 - Free to relax and enjoy our programme of optional excursions. Trains & Boats of Lake Lucerne - A superb three-quarter day tour of Lucerne. We include a cruise on the lake and a trip on the rack railway to the summit of Mount Rigi. Glacier Express - We board the train at Andermatt and head along one of the most scenic stretches of the railway, crossing the 6,660 ft high Oberalp Pass. The Glacier Express excursion must be pre-booked. If you require tickets, please indicate when booking and the cost of £44 per person (£22 per child aged 3-16) will be added to your invoice. Bernese Oberland - An exciting tour of the Bernese Oberland beneath the famous Jungfrau and Eiger peaks. We take you to the awesome Trummelbach Falls, then ride the mountain railway from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen, a lovely traffic-free village high on a mountain plateau. Complete the day with a visit to pretty Grindelwald, known as the Glacier Village, with a fabulous mountain panorama. DAY 6 - Time to leave Lucerne and head back to northern France for our final night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 7 - Continue to Calais for a late afternoon crossing to the UK, returning to your original departure point in the evening. your HoteL You will stay in the comfortable Hotel Central, located within a few minutes walk of Lucernes old town centre and the lakeside promenade. The hotel has a restaurant, bar and lift. Bedrooms feature private facilities, hairdryer, TV and telephone.
