ELBA COAST
Discover the beautiful island of Elba, with its miles and miles of rugged coastline, pretty villages and unspoilt sandy beaches. You'll find stunning carpets of wild flowers, dense forests and ancient Roman remains. Famous as the island Napoleon was exiled to, Elba has much to offer visitors.
YOUR RESORT Elba sits just off the Tuscan coast. It is Italy's third largest island behind Sicily and Sardinia, and is home to picturesque fishing villages and stunning mountain scenery. It is famous as the island Napoleon was exiled to in 1814, and his influence can still be seen across Elba today. The island has scenic walking routes through sleepy fishing villages, across panoramic heights and along sandy beaches. There is a fantastic variety of wild flowers on Elba, all of which make touring the island even more attractive. You will stay for seven nights in the pretty village of Marciana Marina, on the north side of the island at the foot of the Capanne Mountains. Whilst you're here, why not ride the cableway to the summit of Monte Capanne, the highest point on the island, where you will be rewarded with beautiful views of Elba and across to the French island of Corsica. Alternatively, why not board the glass-bottomed Nautilus for a wonderful two hour cruise around the sheer cliffs and lovely coves of Elba's northwest coastline. You'll be able to look out for the sealife that populates the water around the island, as well as visiting the amazing site of a shipwreck from 1970. You can also take boat trips to other nearby Tuscan islands, or catch the ferry across to the Italian mainland, visiting the delightful port town of Portoferraio, founded in 1548 by the Medici Grand Duke Cosimo I. Browse around the openair market and take the opportunity to visit Elba's earliest Roman villa, the Villa Grotte, from where there are beautiful views across the bay. Wander through the two Medici fortresses Forte Stella and Forte Falcone to Napoleon's winter palace, the Villa dei Mulini. INCLUDED EXCURSION Island Tour - We include a three-quarter day tour of this beautiful island seeing some of its picturesque high spots and beautiful beaches, such as Porto Azzurro and the lovely Marina di Campo. YOUR HOTEL You will stay in the Hotel Gabbiano Azzuro I, just ten minutes' walk from the waterfront in the fishing village of Marciana Marina. The hotel has a breakfast room, bar, lounge, secluded garden, swimming pool and sun terraces. All rooms have air-conditioning, private facilities, TV and telephone.
