Hamelin Berlin Möhne Dam
The beautiful rolling scenery of the Harz region, Germany's northernmost mountain range, is the setting for this fascinating holiday. During your stay we include a guided tour and full day visit to Berlin, the cosmopolitan capital of reunified Germany plus the chance to visit the medieval towns of Goslar and Quedlinburg. An additional highlight is the opportunity of a ride on the unique Harz Narrow Gauge Railway.
Explore the splendid Harz region and further afield, taking in Leipzig, Goslar, Quedlinburg and Berlin. We include a visit to Hamelin, legendary home of the famous Pied Piper, plus you will see the impressive Möhne Dam of `Dambusters' fame. Day 1 UK/Netherlands Local departure and an afternoon crossing to Calais. Continue through Belgium to the Netherlands for your overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Day 2 Harz We continue to the medieval town centre of Hamelin, famous for the folk tale Pied Piper of Hamelin. We continue our journey, arriving at our hotel in the Harz region for a seven night stay. Meals: B/D Days 3 to 8 Harz Free to relax and enjoy our excursion programme. Meals: B/D The following excursion is included. Berlin - A full day tour to this interesting city packed with culture, history and fabulous attractions. Our guided tour takes you to the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden, the State Opera House, the famed border crossing site `Checkpoint Charlie', Alexanderplatz and the TV Tower. The afternoon is at leisure to explore further. The following excursions are optional: Harz Narrow Gauge Railway - This full day excursion includes an unforgettable narrow gauge rail trip from Wernigerode up to the Brocken station at a height of over 3,490 ft. Enjoy magnificent views over the Hochharz National Park along the way. After the ride down you have free time in the delightful medieval centre of Wernigerode. Leipzig & Colditz - A fascinating full day excursion featuring a guided tour of Colditz Castle, the infamous World War II prison, and the rejuvenated city of Leipzig. Goslar & Quedlinburg - A three-quarter day tour featuring a visit to the UNESCO listed town of Goslar and the delightful town of Quedlinburg with its pretty halftimbered houses. Halberstadt & Specialities of the Harz - In the morning we visit Halberstadt, then in the afternoon we enjoy an excursion to a glass manufacturer to learn about the history of glass-blowing, a tradition associated with the Harz region. From here we continue to the family-run `Friederich' bakery and café for a demonstration on how the local `tree cake` is made - don't forget to sample some for yourself. Day 9 Northern Germany Time to leave the Harz region and head west. Today, an added bonus is a photostop at the Möhne Dam, the target of the famous wartime Dambusters raid. Continue to our final overnight stop in northern Germany area on a bed and breakfast basis. Meals: B Day 10 Northern Germany/UK Continue to Calais for a late afternoon crossing to the UK, returning to your original departure point in the evening. Meals: B

You'll stay in the comfortable 3-star Hotel Zum Schwan, in the small village of Nachterstedt, located around 50 miles east of Goslar. Or the 3-star Hotel and Restaurant Warnstedter Krug, located 10km from Quedlinburg. Both hotels have a restaurant and bar, and rooms are comfortably furnished with TV, private facilities and telephone. Please note that the Hotel Zum Schwan does not have a lift. Your hotel will be confirmed in your final documents. Overnight hotels en route will typically be comfortable 2-star standard, conveniently situated for onward travel to your final destination.
