Discover the delights of Krakow on this superb holiday. This Polish city has one of the best preserved medieval centres in Europe and is home to a treasure trove of architectural delights just waiting to be discovered. As you explore the city, you'll see such marvellous sights as the Royal Castle and the famous Cloth Hall.
DAY 1 UK/Germany Local departure and an afternoon crossing to Calais. Continue into Germany for an overnight stay, stopping for an included dinner en route. Meals: D DAY 2 Germany This morning, travel through Germany to the east of the country for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Meals: B DAY 3 Krakow Today, we drive to Wroclaw where we will see the Old Town with its historic buildings restored to their former Baroque glory, centred around the Rynek, the main market square and the beautiful Plac Solny or Salt Market. Plus there is a large range of cafés and restaurants that are ideal for a spot of lunch (not included). Continue to Krakow for a five night stay. Enjoy dinner at the hotel tonight. Meals: B/D DAY 4 Krakow Today we include a fascinating walking tour of the old town in the company of a local guide. Krakow is home to some wonderful sights, such as the Royal Castle in Wawel, the celebrated Cloth Hall, the beautiful old Kanonicze Street and the magnificent Market Square, dominated by St. Mary's Church. Our tour then takes us to Nowa Huta, a purpose-built suburb of Krakow constructed as a hub of socialist values. We enjoy a tour of the town, which was built to house the workers from Poland's largest steelworks. This evening we offer an optional folklore evening with dinner and drinks. Meals: B/D DAY 5 Krakow Enjoy a day at leisure or join our optional full day excursion to Auschwitz. The largest of the former Nazi concentration camps has been preserved in order that the atrocities of World War II are not forgotten. It is a powerful place to visit and you can't help but come away moved by what you have seen and heard. Meals: B/D DAY 6 Zakopane Today we include a full day excursion to picture-postcard Zakopane. Situated in the spectacular Tatra Mountains, Zakopane is Poland's most famous mountain resort. Since the 19th century the resort has been transformed from a tiny mountain village into a town with a well-developed network of hotels, shops and restaurants, yet has managed to preserve its charm and folklore traditions. Meals: B/D DAY 7 Krakow Free in Krakow, or join our optional excursion to the impressive Wieliczka Salt Mine with its incredible labyrinth of underground galleries and chambers carved into the rock salt walls. One of the world's oldest salt mines, it is one of Poland's most famous attractions. During the evening, we invite you to a local restaurant for a farewell dinner. Meals: B/D DAY 8 Germany Leaving Krakow, we drive to Germany for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Meals: B DAY 9 Northern Europe Continuing on our journey back to the UK, we stay overnight in northern Europe on a bed and breakfast basis. Meals: B DAY 10 Northern Europe/UK Continue to Calais for a late afternoon crossing to the UK, returning to your departure point in the evening. Meals: B
