Our ever-popular holiday to Lake Maggiore includes a seven night stay at a lakeside, family-run hotel, in picturesque Pallanza. The resort nestles along the western shore of the lake and has many examples of fine old buildings warmed and mellowed by the sun for more than three hundred summers. As you stroll through the old town and enjoy the panoramic views across the lake, your abiding memory will be of the sight and scent of flowers - particularly the magnolias and oleanders. The renowned botanical gardens of the Villa Taranto are a short walk from the hotel and the enchanting Borromean Islands, including Isola Bella, are a delightful boat trip across the lake. DAY 1 UK/Namur Local departure and an afternoon crossing to Calais. Continue to your overnight stop in Belgium. DAY 2 Switzerland Continue to southern Switzerland where we enjoy an overnight stop. Meals: B DAY 3 Pallanza We drive south across the Italian border to Pallanza on Lake Maggiore for our seven night stay. Including a guided tour inside Borromeo Palace. Macugnaga - A half-day trip to the Anzasca Valley and the picturesque Alpine resort of Macugnaga, a popular winter sport destination. The town breathes new life in the summer months, with spectacular views of nearby Mount Rosa making this a picture perfect location where you will be happy to while away a few hours. It is also a popular mountaineering destination which creates a constant flow of life through the streets of this sparsely populated town. Zermatt - A full day tour over the border into Switzerland to this fabulous resort, overlooked by the mighty Matterhorn. Lake Orta & Omegna Market - A three quarter day tour to perhaps the most idyllic of the Italian lakes, Lake Orta, where we include a visit to the traditional outdoor market at Omegna. Centovalli - A full day excursion featuring a scenic railway journey (approx. 90 mins) through the fascinating `hundred valleys' to Locarno with a relaxing ferry ride back across the lake to Pallanza. Meals: B/D DAY 10 Northern France Time to leave Italy and head back through Switzerland to northern France for a final overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis.
