Reims walking tour Visit to Mumm Champagne cellars
Join us to visit Reims, which enjoys a fabulous location in the heart of the Champagne region. Discover the history and beautiful rolling countryside of the area on our range of included and optional excursions, with plenty of opportunity to sample the region's most famous tipple.
Day 1 UK/Reims Local departure and an afternoon crossing to Calais. Your journey continues to Reims, where you will stay for the next three nights. To celebrate your arrival in Champagne country, enjoy a welcome glass of bubbly. Day 2 Reims The Champagne region of northern France has been producing the world's most famous wine for the last 400 years. This morning we include a walking tour of Reims, where you will find the Basilica of St. Remi, Tau Palace and the Roman Forum. You will then visit the cellars of the Mumm Champagne Company, which will reveal the art of making Champagne, with a tasting included. The House of Mumm was established in Reims in 1827 by a German family. They made the unusual decision for the time to buy their grapes directly from the growers, rather than the pre-prepared grape juice. This way they could control the quality of the main ingredient of their final product. The afternoon is free for you to make your own discoveries of Reims, or why not join our optional excursion to nearby Châlonsen-Champagne, with its medieval quarter and half-timbered houses. Meals: B Day 3 Reims Enjoy a day at leisure in Reims. Or why not join our optional full day tour of the stunning Champagne region. Travel to Épernay, where you will enjoy a paddle boat cruise along the stunning River Marne before paying a visit to the famous Mercier Champagne cellars. As you walk through Épernay, it's astounding to think that in cellars below your feet there are said to be around 200 million bottles of Champagne ageing - this really is the `Champagne Capital of the World'. Meals: B Day 4 Reims/UK Morning departure for Calais and a late afternoon crossing back to the UK, returning to your original departure point this evening. Meals: B
