Come with us to the glorious Portuguese island of Madeira, set like an emerald amid the blue waters of the Atlantic. This welcoming island with its sub-tropical climate is home to a wealth of flora and fauna, glorious gardens, lovely villages and breathtaking views of volcanic mountains, contrasting with the deep blue ocean.
YOUR RESORT The town of Funchal is set in a delightful bay against a backdrop of soaring mountains and has a distinctly Portuguese flavour. Take a walk through the cobbled streets of the old town where you will find a good selection of shops, bars and cafés, or stroll along the promenade to the harbour teeming with beautiful yachts. To help you make the most of your time, we have put together a fabulous programme of optional excursions. CHOICE OF OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS Funchal - A half day tour of Funchal including a tasting of Madeira wine, the fortified wine produced exclusively on the island. We also pay a visit to the Botanical Gardens. Crater & Toboggan - A half day excursion to see the extinct volcano crater at Nuns Valley. We continue to the village of Monte, where you have the opportunity to experience the famous toboggan run down the steep hill into Funchal. The wicker toboggans with wooden skis are steered by two men dressed in white trousers, shirts and straw boater hats, who use the rubber soles of their boots as brakes! Levada Walk & Camacha - Enjoy beautiful scenery as you walk along the path of a Levada, or water channel, created to bring water from the highlands. There are over 1,500 miles of Levadas on the island, hydrating the sun-parched south with water collected in the wet regions of the north of the island. The Levada walk is followed by a visit to Camacha, famous for its wicker products. We pay a visit to the wickerwork centre during our visit (approx. 2 hours walk). Folklore Evening - Treat yourself to a night out at a local restaurant and be entertained by Madeiran folk dancers. Additional optional excursions will also be available. YOUR HOTEL You have the choice of staying in either a three, four or five star hotel (see opposite for details). Four and five star hotels are at a supplement (see the price panel opposite). The three star Hotel Dom Pedro Garajau is situated in the residential area of the village of Garajau, approximately six miles from the centre of Funchal. Amenities include a restaurant, bar, A three course evening meal deal for the duration of your stay is available for a supplement at all hotels (Hotel Dom Pedro Garajau £84, Hotel Pestana Bay £125, Hotel Pestana Casino Park £150). Please tell your Holiday Advisor when booking that you would like to take advantage of this offer. TV lounge, swimming pools and games room. The hotel bedrooms are situated in a separate complex, connected to the main building. They feature private facilities, TV, telephone, balcony or terrace and some have a kitchenette. Entertainment is provided at the hotel on most evenings. There are a number of shops, bars and restaurants around the hotel, plus a frequent bus service into Funchal.
4 STAR UPGRADE
The four star Hotel Pestana Bay has a magnificent view over the Atlantic Ocean and direct access to the beach. Hotel amenities include a restaurant with ocean views, a bar, a freshwater pool with separate Jacuzzi, games room, sauna and Turkish bath. The hotel provides free transport to the centre of Funchal, which is approximately four miles away, where you will find dozens of bars and restaurants. All rooms have a kitchenette and balcony and most have a sea view.

The five star Hotel Pestana Casino Park is five minutes walk from the centre of Funchal and is situated on a cliff top with views over Funchal Bay. Amenities include an open-air pool, tennis courts and health and fitness centre. There are three restaurants, including an à la carte and open air restaurant, and there are three bars. All rooms in this elegant hotel are equipped with private facilities, a balcony and TV. Supplement payable for a room with a partial sea view.
