Towering mountains and serene lakes make Switzerland one of Europes most spectacular holiday destinations. From the town of Meiringen you will delight in marvellous mountain passes, rolling pastures, and picturesque villages.
YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning crossing to Calais. Continue to your overnight stop in the Metz area of France on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 2 - Continue south into Switzerland, crossing the border at Basel. Late afternoon arrival at your hotel in Meiringen for a seven night stay. DAYS 3 TO 8 - At leisure to relax and enjoy our range of included excursions. Meiringen - A half day introductory tour, including entrance to the Sherlock Holmes Museum and a visit to the Reichenbach Falls. Three Passes Tour - A full day tour through the spectacular mountain passes of Grimsel, Furka and Susten (operates subject to weather). The following excursions are optional: Top of Europe - Take an incredible rail journey to the Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe at over 11,000ft. The views from the summit are truly stunning. Bern - A full day tour to the Swiss capital and picturesque Lake Thun. Bernese Oberland - A scenic full day trip visiting Trummelbach Falls and the pretty Alpine village of Grindelwald. Idyllic Switzerland - A scenic drive to Interlaken, with a cruise on Lake Brienz. We also visit the Ballenberg Open Air Folk Museum. DAY 9 - Depart for France and a final overnight stop.

DAY 10 - Continue to Calais for a late afternoon crossing to the UK, returning to your departure point in the evening. YOUR HOTEL You will stay at the family-run, Sporthotel Sherlock Holmes in Meiringen. Hotel amenities include lift, indoor swimming pool, sauna, restaurant, bar and all bedrooms have private facilities, hairdryer, TV and telephone.

YOUR CITY Built beside the River Arno, the compact historic centre of Florence is easily explored on foot. Marvel at the magnificent Duomo, take a stroll across the delightful Ponte Vecchio Bridge, with its famous silver and gold jewellery shops, or explore the side streets and market places in search of a bargain or two. Visit Il Porcellino, the statue of a boar, located in Mercato Nuovo, throw a coin into the grating at its feet and rub its shiny nose to ensure your return to this artistic city. Pisa - A three-quarter day excursion to see the Cathedral and Baptistry, and of course, the famous Leaning Tower, located in the Field of Miracles. We then continue to nearby Lucca. San Gimignano & Siena - Visit the lovely hilltop town of San Gimignano, and Siena, one of the most perfectly preserved medieval cities in Europe. YOUR HOTEL You will stay in the centrally located Hotel Ambasciatori/Diplomat, just a ten minute walk from the River Arno, the main shopping area and the historical Duomo (cathedral). These adjoining hotels have been recently renovated and amenities include a reception area, breakfast room serving buffet breakfast, American bar and lift. All bedrooms are well appointed.
