FRANCE - Short Break Mont St. Michel & the Normandy Coast 4 days from £179 Highlights Include Mont St. Michel Optional Excursion Bayeux & the Normandy Landing Beaches Delve into the past with this superb short break based in the charming town of Caen, in beautiful Normandy. The highlight is an included visit to one of France's most famous landmarks, Mont St. Michel. This rugged island off the Normandy coast dominates the coastline. You'll also have the chance to experience more recent history, with an optional tour of the Normandy Landing Beaches. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning A crossing to Calais. Early evening arrival at your hotel in Caen for a three night stay. DAY 2 - Free to explore Caen, which is home A to a castle and two magnificent abbeys, as well as some super shops. The Rue Vaugeux boasts splendid half-timbered buildings. Alternatively, join our optional three-quarter day excursion to Bayeux, home of the worldfamous tapestry which depicts the events of 1066, and the Normandy Landing Beaches, Gold, Juno and Sword. The trip includes a visit to Arromanches, where you can still see sections of the artificial Mulberry Harbour, constructed for the Allied invasion of Europe on D-Day in 1944. We also stop at Ouistreham, where we will see the Pegasus Bridge, scene of a major battle during the Normandy invasion. DAY 3 - Today we include a full day excursion A to Mont St. Michel. This picturesque medieval settlement is perched atop a rocky island at the mouth of the River Couesnon. The island is linked to the mainland by a causeway and dominated by an imposing Benedictine abbey. Wander through the cobbled streets, take a walk along the ramparts and visit one of the fascinating museums. DAY 4 - Morning departure to Calais for a late A afternoon crossing back to the UK, returning to your original departure point this evening. YOUR HOTEL You will stay in a comfortable medium grade hotel, such as Kyriad Caen Memorial Hotel, located around 3 miles from the town centre. The hotel has a restaurant and bar and all bedrooms have private facilities, TV and telephone.
