FRANCE - Touring La Rochelle & the Loire Valley 10 days from £589 NEW Highlights Include La Rochelle & Ile de Ré Château Chenonceau & Vouvray Gardens of Château Villandry & Château d'Azay le Rideau Panoramic Tour of Paris Visit the attractive Atlantic port of La Rochelle, beautiful Châteaux with stunning gardens, delightful villages and the picturesque Loire Valley on this marvellous tour. With wine tasting and punting on canals included and some superb optional excursions, you will revel in the delights this wonderful holiday has to offer. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and mid-morning crossing A to Calais. Continue to Orleans for an overnight stay in the area on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 2 - Journey through France to Pontaillac, A where you will transfer to your hotel for a three night stay. Dinner is included tonight and on Day 4. DAYS 3 & 4 - Free to relax and enjoy our A excursion programme. The following excursion is included: The following excursion is optional: Amboise & Château Chambord - Visit the charming town of Amboise, where highlights include the impressive Château d'Amboise and the Clos Luce manor house, joined to the Château by an underground tunnel. You will then visit the imposing Château de Chambord, the largest Château in the Loire valley, with its elaborate rooftop terraces and double-helix staircase, reputedly designed by Leonardo da Vinci. DAY 9 - Depart after breakfast for your journey A to Paris, visiting the Royal Castle at Blois en route. Once in Paris, you will take a short panoramic tour of the city, taking in the sights of the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, the Place de la Concorde and the Champs Elysees. Our journey continues to the outskirts of Paris for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 10 - Continue to Calais for your return A crossing to the UK. YOUR HOTELS In Pontaillac, you will stay in the three star Grand Hotel de Pontaillac. This recently refurbished hotel has an exceptional setting overlooking the fine sandy beach of Pontaillac Bay. Hotel amenities include a restaurant, breakfast room and bar. All rooms feature private facilities, TV and telephone. In Tours, you will stay in comfortable medium grade hotels such as the Hotel Turone. There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel. All rooms feature private facilities, TV and telephone. Discover the Old Harbour, where you can stop in one of the cafés and watch the yachts in the harbour. In the afternoon you will continue to Ile de Ré, a delightful island fringed with sandy beaches, oyster beds and salt marshes. The following excursion is optional: Rochefort, the Fouras Peninsula & Marennes - This full day excursion starts with a visit to the port of Rochefort, stopping at the Corderie Royal, the longest building in France. Continue to the Fouras Peninsula for spectacular views out to sea and Fort Boyard. The day ends with a tour of the Oyster Museum in Marennes, where you will get to taste this local speciality. DAY 5 - Head towards the Loire Valley today, A stopping en route at the canals of the Marais Poitevin, where you will visit the local museum and enjoy a flat-bottomed punt ride on the canals (weather permitting). Continue on to Tours, stopping for lunch (not included) in the charming hill town of Poitiers. In Tours, transfer to your hotel for a four night stay, two nights on a half board basis and two nights including breakfast. DAYS 6 TO 8 - Free to relax and enjoy our A excursion programme. Stroll round the beautiful formal gardens and visit the Château, before heading to Vouvray for a wine tasting of the world renowned vins petillants, delicious sparkling white wine. Gardens of Château Villandry & Château d'Azay le Rideau - The unique gardens of Château Villandry are laid out on three levels, with an ornamental lake, beautiful flower garden and ornamental vegetable garden. The elegant Château d'Azay le Rideau was constructed on an island in the River Indre in the 16th century.
