GERMANY - Walking Walking in the Ahr Valley 5 days from £239 HALF BOARD ALL EXCURSIONS & WALKS INCLUDED WALKING GRADE 1 Highlights Include Altenahr Red Wine Trail Eifel Explorer Music & Wine Evenings Join us on our great value walking holiday in Germany's beautiful Eifel Hills region, bordered by the Moselle river in the south and the mighty Rhine to the east. Your resort, the pretty town of Altenahr, with its countless half-timbered old buildings, is situated at one of the most scenic spots in the Ahr Valley. The steep slopes of the valley are clad in vines which produce the famous red wines of the region. There is a good selection of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, whilst activities include walking, riding, tennis, mini-golf and more. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning A crossing to Calais. Early evening arrival in Altenahr for a four night stay. DAYS 2 TO 4 - Free to relax and enjoy the A following included walks: Introduction to Altenahr - Walk into the hills around the resort and enjoy the views on the way. If you are keen for more, take a stroll around the picturesque Langfigtal Nature Reserve just outside the town (approx. 2 hours' walk). Red Wine Trail - We follow the scenic trails through the Ahr Valley directly from your resort. After a guided morning walk we meet the coach and continue to the pretty, walled town of Ahrweiler (approx. 3 hours' walk). Explore or relax in Ahrweiler before a return coach transfer back to your hotel. Eifel Explorer - We enjoy a walk in the surrounding Eifel Hills, followed by a visit to the charming medieval town of Bad Münstereifel, returning to your hotel via the giant radiotelescope (approx. 2 hours' walk). Music & Wine Evenings - On one evening there will be live music in the hotel and on another an included wine tasting. DAY 5 - Depart after breakfast for a late A afternoon crossing back to the UK and continue to your original departure point in the evening. If you wish to explore independently, the Ahr Valley railway line will take you further afield and the station is just a short walk from your hotel. YOUR HOTEL You will stay in the comfortable Hotel Zum Weissen Kreuz, centrally situated in Altenahr. Run by the Hoppe family, the hotel has a bar, restaurant and lift. All bedrooms are comfortably furnished with private facilities and some have a balcony. You will need comfortable walking boots, a small rucksack, waterproofs, a hat and sunglasses. A local guide will also accompany you on your walks. Grade 1 Walks These are for anyone of any age. Plenty of rest stops and time to enjoy the local scenery with up to 4 hours walking a day, mostly on good paths but occasionally rough underfoot. Ascent less than 300m per day.
