Nothing can prepare you for the magnificent sights of the Dutch Bulbfields. Tulips, daffodils, narcissi, hyacinths and more sway in a kaleidoscope of colour as your coach carries you gently through one of the most beautiful scenes in Europe. More than fifty thousand Travelsphere guests have marvelled at the Dutch bulbfields over the years and who knows, with a little effort you could recreate the memory in your garden at home.
Your base for this fabulous break is the friendly and welcoming resort of Valkenburg. There is plenty to see and do and we include a visit to the enchanting Belgian town of Bruges on your journey home. The delightful little town of Valkenburg in the rolling countryside of the picturesque Geul Valley, in southern Holland, has been a tourist centre for many years. A popular attraction is the ruined hilltop castle linked to underground Roman grottoes by secret passages. There is also a 1920sstyle casino and a spa at the futuristic Thermae 2000 complex. The pedestrianised town centre with its grand old Dutch architecture is alive with cafés and bars and the shopping is excellent. Other attractions include a replica coal mine, cycle hire, tennis and underground aquarium. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning A crossing to Calais. Early evening arrival in Valkenburg for a three night stay. DAYS 2 & 3 - Free to relax and enjoy our A excursion programme. The following excursion is included: Dutch Bulbfields - Our full day excursion takes you through the Dutch countryside past windmills, canals and bulbfields en route to the dazzling Keukenhof Gardens (entrance included). They claim to put on the `Greatest Flower Show on Earth', and who on earth is going to challenge them? In a centuries-old castle park, where swans glide sedately round the lakes, you will see thousands of flowers. There are also water displays, flowering shrubs, floral works of art, theme gardens and pavilions packed with flower arrangements. The following excursion is optional: Monschau - Quaint half-timbered buildings and narrow winding streets make this one of the prettiest towns in the Eifel area of northern Germany. Places of interest include the castle, the Monschau Brewery Museum, the Glass Works (Monschau has a 2000 year history of glass-making), the Red House Museum and the Mustard Mill. Alternatively, you may wish to browse round the many craft shops or simply relax in a cosy café on this half day trip. DAY 4 - We stop off at the lovely town of A Bruges, before continuing to Calais for a late afternoon crossing back to the UK. Return to your original departure point in the evening.
