The picturesque town of Valkenburg in southern Holland is a delightful base for this fabulous break. We include visits to medieval Monschau and enchanting Bruges too.
The popular resort of Valkenburg is home to a ruined castle, the only hilltop fortress in Holland, and has a network of tunnels running under the town. Spend time wandering around the shops, stopping in a café for the local delicacy of Limburg Flan. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning A crossing to Calais. Early evening arrival in Valkenburg for a three night stay. DAY 2 - Morning free to relax in Valkenburg. A In the afternoon, join our included half day trip to Monschau, one of the prettiest towns in northern Germany with its quaint half-timbered buildings and narrow winding streets. Visit the castle, the Monschau Brewery Museum, the Glass Works, the Red House Museum and the Mustard Mill; browse round the craft shops; or watch the world go by from a cosy café. DAY 3 - At leisure or why not join our morning A optional excursion to the popular and vibrant town of Maastricht. With cobbled streets and modern architecture, Maastricht is a town of contrasts. In the afternoon take part in an optional boat trip on the river Maas to see the sites from the water. YOUR HOTEL You will stay at the family-run Hotel Hulsman in the centre of Valkenburg. Facilities include bar, restaurant and terrace. All bedrooms have private facilities, TV, telephone and hairdryer. There will be a music evening on the final night at the hotel.

DAY 4 - On the return journey we visit the A enchanting Belgian town of Bruges, with its many medieval buildings and delightful old centre featuring the Bell Tower, narrow cobbled streets, traditional gabled houses and majestic churches. The city is also famous for its lace, chocolates and beer. Continue to Calais for a late afternoon crossing back to the UK, returning to your original departure point this evening.
