The beautiful vistas and pleasant climate of the Italian lakes give the region an enduring appeal that is hard to beat. Encircled by the spectacular peaks of the Alps, the shores of sparkling Lake Como are ablaze with the colour and fragrance of exotic flowers in summer. The area abounds with wonderful views, historic villas, pretty lakeside villages and breathtaking mountain scenery.
From your base in the charming lakeside village of Tremezzo, you will have ample opportunity to view the marvellous gardens that adorn the region, including those of Villa Melzi, where you will be amazed by the variety of flowers and rare plants with their diversity of colour and fragrances. You can also explore vibrant Milan and experience the spectacular Swiss Alps with a visit to famous St. Moritz. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning A crossing to Calais. Continue to northern France and the Metz area for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 2 - Continue south through the spectacular A Swiss Alps into northern Italy, arriving at your hotel in Tremezzo, Lake Como, early evening for a seven night stay. DAYS 3 TO 8 - Free to relax and take advantage A of our excellent range of optional excursions: Como, Bellagio & Villa Melzi Gardens - A marvellous three-quarter day introductory trip to the lakeside town of Como, with free time to wander among the parks and bustling cafés and its medieval quarter with ancient city gates. We then take a ferry boat ride up to Bellagio to visit the famous lakeside gardens of Villa Melzi. These magnificent gardens are divided into several sections and adorned with statues. After your visit there will be free time to explore the lakeside resort of Bellagio before catching the return ferry to Tremezzo. St. Moritz - This full day excursion features a scenic coach journey to Tirano, followed by the superb Bernina Express railway journey over the spirals and through the tunnels of the Bernina Pass, climbing to more than 7,000ft. Journey's end is the exclusive Swiss resort of St. Moritz. Bergamo - A three-quarter day trip to this delightful hilltop town, with free time to explore the upper area, Bergamo Alta, with its well preserved collection of medieval buildings. Milan - A full day excursion to Italy's capital of style and fashion, including a city guide. Milan has plenty to offer, including Sforzesco Castle and the elegant shops of the Gallerie, displaying the latest fashions, along with the magnificent Duomo and the famous La Scala Opera House. Lake Maggiore - A full day tour to magnificent Lake Maggiore, known as the `Lake of Flowers'. The area is rich in beautiful buildings, picturesque resorts, colourful gardens and spectacular scenery. A boat trip around the famous Borromean Islands is also available. DAY 9 - Depart after breakfast for your journey A home, travelling through Switzerland into northern France to the Metz area for your final overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 10 - Continue to Calais for a late afternoon A crossing back to the UK, returning to your original departure point in the evening. YOUR HOTEL You will stay in the comfortable Hotel Bazzoni in Tremezzo. The hotel enjoys a wonderful position overlooking the lake, and benefits from a lounge area, bar, restaurant, sun terrace, swimming pool and lift. All bedrooms feature private facilities, satellite TV and telephone. Standard rooms are at the rear of the hotel. Lake view rooms available for a supplement. Meals are buffet style and there will be live music on one evening during your stay.
