The pretty town of Vianden is possibly the most strikingly situated town in this region of Europe. Nestling in the heart of the Ardennes region, hemmed in by woods all around, cut through by the River Our and watched over by a medieval castle, Vianden is a truly remarkable spot. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Local departure and a mid-morning A crossing to Calais. Early evening arrival in Vianden for a four night stay. DAYS 2 TO 4 - Free to relax and enjoy our A optional excursion programme: Luxembourg City & the Moselle - A full day tour to see the best of the southern region of Luxembourg. We visit Luxembourg City, one of the most dramatically situated cities in Europe. You will have a guided tour of this remarkable city which has existed since Roman times and been influenced over the last five centuries by numerous foreign invaders. In the afternoon we head to Wormeldange in the wine growing region, where we visit a wine cellar and enjoy a tasting. We round off the day with a relaxing boat trip on the River Moselle. Little Switzerland & Echternach - A half day tour of the most scenic area of Luxembourg, the Mullerthal. With its bizarre rock formations, dense forests and gushing rivers, it deserves its nickname as Luxembourg's `Little Switzerland'. We also stop in the beautiful town of Echternach, which, with its narrow streets, ancient ramparts and old Benedictine Abbey, retains a remarkable medieval atmosphere. Trier - A three-quarter day tour to Germany's oldest town, Trier, where you can enjoy a stroll through the historic old centre, overlooked by the Cathedral and the Roman tower, known as the Porta Nigra. DAY 5 - Depart after breakfast for a late A afternoon crossing back to the UK and continue to your original departure point in the evening.
YOUR HOTEL You will stay at the family-run medium grade Grand Hotel de Vianden. The hotel is ideally situated in the centre of the town. Your hosts, the Peverelli family, speak good English and will ensure you have a most enjoyable stay. Hotel facilities include a large restaurant, bar, lift, terrace, sauna and solarium. All bedrooms are comfortably furnished with private facilities and TV.
