Discover the beauty of delightful Carinthia in southern Austria. From your lovely lakeside resort, our super included excursions will show you the very best of this charming region, with its sparkling lakes, snow-capped mountains, fairy tale castles and charming towns. We also spend two nights in the beautiful `Sound of Music' city, Salzburg.
YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Depart on your flight to Salzburg. On arrival transfer south to your hotel in Seeboden for a five night stay on a half board basis. DAYS 2 TO 5 - Free to relax and join in our exciting programme of activities and excursions. The following excursions are included: Seeboden - Known as `the gateway to Lake Millstatt', our morning orientation tour introduces you to the spacious parks, the Japanese garden and medieval Sommeregg Castle. Carinthian Lakes - A full day tour featuring some of the area's most beautiful scenery such as Lake Ossiacher, one of the warmest lakes, where it is claimed the water is pure enough to drink. The lively town of Villach has a Mediterranean feel and is well-known for its thermal baths. The Mittagskogel cliffs are an imposing backdrop for the crystal clear, blue water of picturesque Lake Faaker, Austria's most southerly lake. A highlight of the tour is a visit to the Pyramidenkogel Observation Tower near Lake Wörther, for fabulous views over the whole region (small extra charge). Nockalm Mountain Road - A scenic drive along this mountain road within the Nock Mountains National Park. On the way back, we stop to explore the delightful old spa town of Bad Kleinkirchheim (three-quarter day). The following excursions are optional: Cruise on Lake Millstatt - One of the best ways to appreciate the panoramic views of lovely Lake Millstatt. Snow-capped mountains form a dramatic backdrop to the lush green forests, flower-strewn meadows and picturesque villages, including the historic town of Millstatt. Mountain Tour - This is a memorable day in the mountains with a local guide. From the Lammersdorfer mountain hut, we walk to the summit of the Juffen mountain (approx 1½ hours walk), where we enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the Carinthian lakes and mountains. A traditional Austrian lunch will be provided at the Lammersdorfer hut. DAY 6 - Leave the Carinthian Lakes after breakfast and return to Salzburg for a two night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. Join a local guide for an included city tour. Salzburg has a wonderfully preserved old centre, dominated by the magnificent Hohensalzburg Fortress which can be reached either by foot or funicular. Visit Mozart's Square situated in the heart of the city, the Dom (cathedral) and the splendid Mirabell Gardens. DAY 7 - Optional morning excursion to Berchtesgaden and the infamous Eagle's Nest. This evening, why not join our optional final dinner in the dramatic Hohensalzburg Fortress, where you will also enjoy a wonderful classical concert. DAY 8 - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. YOUR HOTELS You will stay in the excellent, family-run Hotel Moserhof in the centre of Seeboden, a few minutes' walk from the shores of Lake Millstatt. Amenities include a bar, restaurant, TV room, lift, plus fitness centre with indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam bath, solarium and exercise room. All bedrooms feature private facilities, radio, telephone, hairdryer, satellite TV, and most have a balcony. In Salzburg you will stay on a bed and breakfast basis in the stylish Mercure Hotel Kapuzinerberg, located approximately 20 minutes walk from the historic centre. Amenities include a lounge bar, two restaurants and a lift. All bedrooms feature private facilities, TV and telephone.
