YOUR CITY Built beside the River Arno, the compact historic centre of Florence is easily explored on foot. Marvel at the magnificent Duomo, take a stroll across the delightful Ponte Vecchio Bridge, with its famous silver and gold jewellery shops, or explore the side streets and market places in search of a bargain or two. Use your time here to explore, perhaps visiting the famous Uffizi art gallery, home to a fantastic art collection, including works by Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci. Climb the steps to the top of the Duomo or visit one of the many markets selling a variety of gifts. Visit `Il Porcellino', the statue of a boar, located in Mercato Nuovo, throw a coin into the grating at its feet and rub its shiny nose to ensure your return to this artistic city. and of course, the famous Leaning Tower, located in the `Field of Miracles'. We then continue to nearby Lucca, a beautifully preserved historic walled city where you can walk along the magnificent ramparts. San Gimignano & Siena ­ San Gimignano is one of the loveliest hilltop towns in Tuscany with its beautiful palaces and churches, ornate frescoes, a fine baptistry and 14 towers built in medieval times by feuding families within the ancient walls. Siena is one of the most perfectly preserved medieval cities in Europe. Its enchanting narrow streets, lined with palaces and mansions, lead to the spectacular Piazza del Campo, setting for the colourful Palio horse races held twice each year. YOUR HOTEL You will stay in the centrally located Hotel Ambasciatori/ Diplomat, just a ten minute walk from the River Arno, the main shopping area and the historical Duomo (cathedral). These adjoining hotels have been recently renovated and amenities include a reception area, breakfast room serving buffet breakfast, American bar and lift.
