Come with us to the glorious Portuguese island of Madeira, set like an emerald amid the blue waters of the Atlantic. This welcoming island with its sub-tropical climate is home to a wealth of flora and fauna, glorious gardens, lovely villages and breathtaking views of volcanic mountains, contrasting with the deep blue ocean.
YOUR RESORT The town of Funchal is set in a delightful bay against a backdrop of soaring mountains and has a distinct Portuguese flavour. Take a walk through the cobbled streets of the old town where you will find a good selection of shops, bars and cafés, or stroll along the promenade to the harbour teeming with beautiful yachts. CHOICE OF OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS Funchal - An introductory half day city tour including a Madeira wine tasting and a visit to the Botanical Gardens. Nun's Valley & Monte - A half day excursion including a scenic drive up the mountain for wonderful views over the village of Curral das Freiras, otherwise known as `Nun's Valley'. From here we travel through the hills to Monte, a delightful, picturesque hamlet village situated above Funchal, famed for its beautiful church and pretty public gardens and the famous toboggan run for those who wish to be whisked downhill in this unique and famous form of transport (at extra cost). Blandy Gardens & Quinta Palmeira - A delightful half day tour visiting the impressive private estate owned by the Blandy family, where you can see a fantastic collection of rare and valuable plants. We then continue to the magnificent terraced gardens of Quinta Palmeira, which overlook the Bay of Funchal and feature a large collection of exotic plants unique to the island. Additional optional excursions will be available including visits to some of Madeira's other beautiful gardens. Plus for our keen walkers there is a selection of fascinating walks to show you the best of the island. YOUR HOTEL The three star family-run Residencia Vila Camacho is located in an elevated position with panoramic views over Funchal. The hotel has a restaurant/bar, a small outdoor pool, terrace and TV room. All rooms have private facilities and telephone. Sea view rooms are available at a supplement. A public bus service operates into the centre of Funchal.
