YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Depart on your scheduled flight to Madrid. On arrival transfer to your hotel for a three night stay on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 2 - This morning there is an included city tour of Madrid, Spain's vibrant capital city. This afternoon is free to visit the Prado Museum, enjoy shopping along the Gran Via, relax over a drink and tapas in Plaza Mayor, or take our optional excursion to Segovia. This spectacularly situated city is dominated by the Alcazar, a Moorish fortress. Visit the impressive gothic cathedral and magnificent Roman aqueduct. DAY 3 - Free to explore Madrid independently, or take an optional excursion to Toledo and Aranjuez. In Toledo you will visit the imposing gothic cathedral with its beautiful stained-glass windows, and stroll through the maze of cobbled streets. You will then drive on to Aranjuez for a tour of the 18th century Royal Summer Palace. DAY 4 - Transfer to Madrid station for your train journey to Seville. On the way we make a stop for an included visit to historic Cordoba. In the afternoon we reboard the train and continue to Seville for a two night stay. Dinner is included tonight. DAY 5 - Included morning tour of Seville, featuring sights such as La Giralda, the Alcazar Palace and Plaza Espana. Afternoon free to explore further in the old quarter. DAY 6 - Today you will leave Seville and travel to Merida, for a two night stay. Take our optional tour of Merida, where you will see magnificent Roman ruins, including one of the best preserved Roman Theatres in the world. Dinner is included tonight. DAY 7 - Free to explore the Roman heritage of Merida, or take an optional excursion to Caceres and Trujillo. Surrounded by Roman and Moorish walls, the medieval centre of Caceres is home to palaces and impressive town houses. Trujillo has some beautiful mansions built by conquistadors, including the Palacio de la Conquista and the Palacio de Orellana-Pizarro. DAY 8 - Today you will cross the border into Portugal, stopping at the hilltop town of Estremoz, for a short visit. You will continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Evora. Carry on to Estoril near Lisbon for a three night stay (one night on a half board basis and two nights including breakfast). DAYS 9 & 10 - Take the included morning sightseeing tour of Lisbon, Portugal's elegant capital, where the main sights include the Belem Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, Dom Pedro Square and the old quarter of Alfama. Free time to explore Lisbon in depth or take our optional tour to Sintra, home to the Royal Palace, the elegant resort of Cascais and Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point on mainland Europe. DAY 11 - Today you will continue on your journey, stopping at Castelo Branco for free time in the town. In the afternoon you will continue to Guarda for an overnight stay. Dinner is included this evening. DAY 12 - Return to Spain and travel to Ciudad Rodrigo, where you will have a guided tour of this lovely old town. In the afternoon you will drive to La Alberca and the Pena de Francia mountain range, on the edge of the Sierra de Gredos, then on to Salamanca for a two night stay. Dinner is included this evening. DAY 13 - Free to relax, or join an optional tour of Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Discover the grand Plaza Mayor, the twin cathedrals and the ancient Roman bridge spanning the River Tormes. DAY 14 - Today you will transfer to Burgos, for a tour of the gothic cathedral. In the afternoon we move on to Bilbao for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis. DAY 15 - Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. YOUR HOTELS Accommodation is in good quality hotels throughout. Typical of the hotels we use are the Hotel Mayorazgo in Madrid, Hotel Silken AlAndalus Palace in Seville, Hotel Velada in Merida, Hotel Londres in Estoril, Hotel Vanguarda in Guarda, Hotel Silken Rona Dalba in Salamanca and Hotel Silken Indautxu in Bilbao. Hotel amenities include bar and restaurant. All rooms feature private facilities, TV and telephone.
