In the far south-west of Spain you'll find the beautiful and unspoilt `Costa de la Luz', an area of Andalucia with magnificent sandy beaches, pleasant climate all year round and a strong pure light (the source of the region's name). The coastline is relatively undeveloped and perfect for a relaxing break. There's also a wealth of treasures to see including the port of Huelva which was the starting point for Columbus' expeditions to the New World. YOUR RESORT Punta Umbria, originally a small fishing village, located just south of Huelva, has developed into a popular resort on the Costa de la Luz. The resort is set on a peninsula with the river and estuary on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other. Its white sandy beaches are backed by pine forests. The main beach is seven miles long and has regularly been awarded the Blue Flag for its clean and crystal-clear waters. The town itself has a small harbour and a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. INCLUDED EXCURSIONS The Columbus Trail - On this half day tour we explore some of the main sites connected with Christopher Columbus. Highlights include the new Harbour of the Caravels, with its full-size replicas of the vessels that made the voyage to the New World in 1492, and also La Rabida Monastery, where Columbus took refuge after his failed attempt to secure funding from Henry VIII. Tavira - A half day tour heading over the border into Portugal to visit Tavira, one of the most unspoilt towns along the Algarve. Wander through the fishing harbour and head up to the Moorish castle for great views, or take a break in the square in the old town. CHOICE OF OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS A range of optional excursions will also be available to Seville and Huelva, and your Tour Manager will provide you with more information once in resort. YOUR HOTEL The superb new four star Hotel Barcelo Punta Umbria Beach is located 100 yards from the beach, next to the Enebrales Natural Park and within easy walking distance of Punta Umbria town centre. the hotel has a buffetstyle restaurant, bar and an outdoor swimming pool. All bedrooms have private facilities, air-conditioning, air-conditioning, satellite TV, telephone, minibar and safe.
