Your fascinating visit begins in the bustling capital of Tokyo. On Day 5 you travel by train to Kanazawa to see the celebrated Kenrokuen Gardens, one of Japan's three most beautiful landscape gardens. The 25 acre grounds embody the six attributes that make for the perfect garden: spaciousness, seclusion, artfulness, antiquity, water and panoramas.

Next stop is Kyoto and a visit to the Zen Rock Garden. This unusual rectangular garden made purely of rocks and gravel is an area of peace and serenity and a place for meditation. Your final treat is a visit to the famous Korakuen Gardens in Okayama, which took 14 years to complete. Designated as a special place of scenic beauty, it is one of Japan's most celebrated gardens featuring ponds, streams, waterfalls, teahouses, pavilions and several small shrines, overlooked by the Okayama Castle, or Crow Castle with its distinctive black walls, which you will also visit. See everything in the main itinerary and more of Japan's highlights on our special departure. Your adventure begins with a flight to Osaka and a stay in Kyoto, the imperial capital for over 1,000 years, including a half day visit to Nara, the City of Temples and former capital of Japan. You continue by train to explore the tragic city of Hiroshima before boarding the famous Bullet Train to Nagoya. From here you climb into the Japanese Alps on board the Wide View Hida train and arrive in Takayama for a visit to the morning market and the Kusakabe Folk museum. After returning to Nagoya, you

step aboard the Bullet Train to Mishima and drive to the Hakone National Park in the foothills of Mount Fuji. Here you can enjoy a boat trip on Lake Ashi, a former crater lake and visit the hot springs at scenic Owakudani before travelling on to Tokyo for a three night stay in Japan's splendid capital.
