In San José you will stay at the Hotel Alta, in Tortuguero you will stay at the Pachira Hotel and in Muelle de San Carlos you will stay at the Hotel Tilajari. In the national park of Rincon de la Vieja you will stay in a lodge at the Hacienda Guachipelin and in Tarcoles, you'll be staying at the Hotel Villa Lapas. Lodge accommodation is simple in style but comfortable enabling you to experience the real Costa Rica. All rooms feature private facilities.

Each day is an exciting journey of discovery encountering rainforest, waterfalls, flora, fauna and deserted beaches. Whether you consider yourself an eco-tourist, nature lover or simply one who appreciates the joy of encountering nature's unimaginable treasures from erupting volcanoes to pristine beaches, from mischievous monkeys to scarlet macaws this gem of a country will delight and inspire the adventurous traveller. YOUR ITINERARY DAY 1 - Depart on your scheduled flight to San José for a three night stay. DAY 2 - San José, capital of Costa Rica, is a vibrant city set in the centre of a ring of mountain peaks. It's a fascinating place, where the bustle of everyday life lays a hectic veneer over a surprising wealth of culture. Our included city tour this morning will show you a few of the sights, including the National Museum & Theatre. The rest of the day is free for you to explore San José. DAY 3 - Today we embark on a full day's included sightseeing. We will visit the Doka Estate Coffee Plantation to discover how Costa Rica's most famous product is made. We then continue up the slopes of the spectacular Poas Volcano where within the swirling mist of the summit lies one of the world's largest craters. We then visit the La Paz Waterfall Gardens. You'll be able to take a walk through the Hummingbird, Serpentarium, Frog and Butterfly Gardens. After an included lunch, walk along the forest trails to see the spectacular waterfalls. DAY 4 - Leave San José for the drive to the Tortuguero National Park, considered one of the country's most important ecological sites. Here, the green, leatherback and hawksbill turtles nest (June to September). Some of the animals you may see include monkeys and sloths plus a staggering range of reptiles, cayman alligators and crocodiles, insects and birds. Your drive today will also take you through the Braulio Carrillo National Park crossing the Continental Divide with breathtaking views of primary forests. This afternoon includes a visit to Tortuguero Village and the beach. DAY 5 - Enjoy an included day of activities, beginning with a morning nature walk in the forest and a fascinating boat trip through the jungle-sheltered Tortuguero Canals. DAY 6 - Travel to Muelle de San Carlos in the area of the Arenal Volcano. This magnificent volcano has been active since 1968. It is best seen on a clear night, when its red and orange hues contrast sharply against the dark sky. We also include a visit to a pineapple plantation. DAY 7 - Today you will take an exciting included walk at the Hanging Bridges of Arenal, across suspension bridges and platforms. This marvellous experience offers a totally different perspective of the rainforest. Sunset visit to the hot springs of Tabacon for views of the Arenal Volcano. DAY 8 - Today you can take an optional morning river float along the Peñas Blancas River, through stunning scenery. This afternoon you'll take an included guided walk through the rainforest. DAY 9 - Travel to Rincon de la Vieja, one of Costa Rica's most impressive natural parks. At its heart is the incredible volcano of the same name. The volcano is still active and the area is marked with fumaroles, which vent steam and gas produced by the turmoil below, mud pools and hot springs.
